The Ball State Cardinals will travel to Coleman Coliseum to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide this Friday night in the MGM Grand Main Event – Campus Game.
The Ball State Cardinals dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the Indiana State Sycamores, 80-74 (OT), this past Tuesday. Ball State was able to force OT after a couple of clutch FT’s by Tayler Persons however, couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 74-68 margin late in the OT period. Ball State struggled offensively as they shot just 38.0% from the floor and 23.5% (4-17) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Ball State was Franko House who had a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Offensively, Ball State is averaging 79.5 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field and 42.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Cardinals has been Tayler Persons (23.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 apg), Franko House (22.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.0 apg), Sean Sellers (6.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.5 apg), and Tahjai Teague (7.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 spg, 2.0 bpg). Defensively, Ball State is allowing their opponents to average 72.0 ppg on 41.5% shooting from the field.

The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the Dayton Flyers, 77-72, this past Tuesday. Alabama held a 36-31 lead at halftime however, went scoreless for a 5-minute span in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after the Flyers took a 65-64 lead with 2:04 left to play. Alabama struggled defensively in the loss as they allowed the Flyers to shoot 54.5% from the field and 50.0% (9-18) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Crimson Tide was Dazon Ingram who had 14 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds. Offensively, Alabama is averaging 71.0 ppg on 41.1% shooting from the field and 32.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Crimson Tide has been Corban Collins (15.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.5 spg), Dazon Ingram (12.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 6.0 apg), Riley Norris (11.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg), and Braxton Key (10.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.0 spg). Defensively, Alabama is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 38.7% shooting. Alabama has down a good job defending the paint early this season and is averaging 5.5 blocks per game.
The Cardinals are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games however, just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Friday games. The Crimson Tide are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Alabama has one of the best guards in the country in Dazon Ingram who returns after missing much of last season due to injury. Ball State suffered a tough loss to Indiana State however, the Cardinals should be one of the better teams in the MAC this season and have an experienced team that can light it up from beyond the arc. Alabama has more talent however, I don’t expect Ball State to go 4-17 from three-point range again and as the Crimson Tide allowed Dayton to do some damage from beyond the arc, I think Ball State will be able to do enough to cover with the points. Take Ball State and the points.
