The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the NAIA Cumberland-Tenn Bulldogs, 95-64, this past Tuesday. Tennessee-Martin had no trouble putting up points in the 1st half and the Skyhawks were easily able to secure the victory after taking a 53-34 halftime lead. Tennessee-Martin shot 56.7% from the field and 44.8% (13-29) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Skyhawks was Kedar Edwards who had 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Offensively, Tennessee-Martin is averaging 88.7 ppg on 48.5% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks are averaging 11.3 three-pointers per game and are shooting 40.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Tennessee-Martin has been Jacolby Mobley (18.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.7 apg), Kedar Edwards (16.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 5.3 apg), Matthew Butler (16.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 4.0 apg), and Fatodd Lewis (12.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg). Defensively, Tennessee-Martin is allowing their opponents to average 76.7 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field.
The Vikings are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Friday games however, just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Skyhawks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Cleveland State and Tennessee-Martin play two different styles of basketball as the Cleveland State will try to slow down the pace while the Skyhawks will try to run you off the court. Cleveland State struggled last season posting just a 9-23 record and struggled scoring the basketball as the Vikings averaged just 60.8 ppg. Tennessee-Martin finished last year with a 20-15 record however, lost 4-starters and outside Kedar Edwards, the Skyhawks will need to rely on the new faces to make immediate contributions. Cleveland State has the edge on experience, however, I just don’t trust the Vikings offense to be able to keep up with the Skyhawks in this one and I’m going to take the home team to cover this small spread. Take Tennessee-Martin to cover.
