The Coppin State Eagles shoot for their first win of the college basketball season when they face the Utah Utes.
I don’t know where the Coppin State Eagles fit in the unpredictable MEAC, but it appears the team needs help at both ends of the floor. That was the case in Wednesday’s 89-59 loss to Coastal Carolina where they trailed 49-29 after 20 minutes and were never able to make a comeback. The Eagles were outshot 46%-27% which equaled ten baskets while hitting eleven fewer free throws. Tre’ Thomas was the game’s top player with a high of 23 points including six bombs while Lucian Brownlee was the only other double digit scorer with eleven points. CSU lacked scoring options and struggled to get stops which is explained by the final score.

What do we know about the Utah Utes so far is debatable after they padded their record against a pair of subdivision squads. The Utes crushed Concordia (OR)96-53 on Tuesday as they led by 24 at the break and continued to pour it on. Utah held a monster 53.5%-32% shooting advantage for 16 more baskets while owning the backboards 48-32 so they were clearly in a different league. Utah had seven double digit scorers led by a 17 point effort from Lorenzo Bonam followed by Parker Van Dyke with 15 points and five yanks while Jolo Zamora added 14 points and five helpers. Kyle Kuzma gave the Utes 13 points and eight rebounds with Tyler Rawson and Devon Daniels combining for 22 points and 16 boards.
The over is 15-5 in Utah last 20 Friday games and Utah are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall while Utah are 41-18-2 ATS in their last 61 home games.
If Utah decides to play 40 minutes like they did against their sub division opponents then a cover is a possibility but they haven’t played anyone…
