Southern Utah vs. Coastal Carolina - 11/21/16 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds picked up their 1st win of the season and improved to 2-1 on the year after defeating the D-II Bethesda Flames, 108-92, this past Friday. Southern Utah was outstanding on the offensive end and led throughout the 2nd half after taking a 45-33 halftime lead. Southern Utah shot 40.0% from the field and outrebounded the Flames by a 60-38 margin. Leading the way for the Thunderbirds was Randy Onwuasor who had 26 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Offensively, Southern Utah is averaging 83.0 ppg on 35.2% shooting from the field. The Thunderbirds are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 26.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Southern Utah has been led by Randy Onwuasor (27.0 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 3.3 apg), Jacob Calloway (11.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg), Ivan Madunic (10.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.7 bpg), and Race Parsons (8.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg). Defensively, Southern Utah is allowing their opponents to average 86.3 ppg on 39.7% shooting from the field. Southern Utah is currently averaging 3.0 bpg and 5.3 spg.

The Chanticleers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Thunderbirds are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games.

Coastal Carolina has opened their season with a tough schedule with road games against Alabama and BYU and has struggled offensively as the Chanticleers rank just 318th in College Basketball with their 37.6% FG Percentage. Southern Utah and new head coach, Todd Simon, has shown early this season that they want to play at a fast pace and although the Thunderbirds have been able to score the ball, they have also struggled as stopping their opponents as they rank 325th in College Basketball in scoring defense. Coastal Carolina is bound to start shooting the ball better than they have however, Southern Utah knows how to put the ball in the basket, and I think the Thunderbirds will be able to do enough to cover with the points in this one. Take Southern Utah and the points.
