Over at the Silvio O. Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, the Towson Tigers and the Boston College Eagles will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Towson is entering this game with a 2-1 record on the year. The Tigers put up wins against George Mason 67-61 and Morgan State 78-72 to start the season, but dropped one to Maryland 71-66 in their most recent outing. In that one, Towson had a 36-34 advantage at halftime but couldn’t keep it up in the second.
USA TODAY Sports
So far this season, Mike Morsell and Arnaud William Adala Moto are the only Towson players averaging in double figures; Morsell has 20.0 PPG with 5.0 RPG and Motto is sitting on 17.3 PPG with 10.3 RPG for a double-double and the team rebound lead.
As for Boston College, they’re coming in here with a 2-1 record as well. The Eagles lost their first game against Nicholls 79-73, but came back with wins against Maryland Eastern Shore 73-57 and Stony Brook 82-75. In that game, Boston College had a 46-30 lead at halftime but was outscored in the second half 45-36.
Boston College has a pair of players averaging in double-figure scoring so far this year as well. Jerome Robinson and AJ Turner are tops for the Eagles; Robinson has 17.3 PPG with 7.0 RPG and 4.3 APG, while Turner is sitting on 12.3 PPG and 4.0 APG with 3.7 RPG.
Towson is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four Tuesday games, and 5-0 ATS in their last five road games. Towson is also 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS win, and 4-0 ATS in their last four road games versus a team with a winning home record.
As for Boston College, they’re 8-17-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall, and 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 games versus a team with a winning straight-up record. Boston College is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven non-conference games, and the under is 5-0 in the Eagles’ last five non-conference games.
On paper, both these teams look pretty close, with similar strengths and weaknesses (which explains the pick 'em line). Both Boston College and Towson need more secondary scoring and can’t rely on their stars game in and game out if they want to be successful. I’m leaning a little more toward Boston College here, though, as the Eagles seem to have a little more help coming from deeper in the lineup. This should be a fun game to watch, whatever happens.
