We’ve got a great college basketball matchup coming from the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico on Tuesday, as the Purdue Boilermakers meet up with the Utah State Aggies.
Purdue enters this game with a 2-1 record on the season so far. The Boilermakers logged a big 109-65 win over McNeese in their opener, but fell to Villanova 79-76 in their second game. Purdue bounced back against Georgia State, though, with a 64-56 win. In that one, Purdue was down 27-30 at the half, but came back with a 37-26 second to seal the win.

On the year so far, Caleb Swanigan is the Boilermakers’ top scorer with 20.7 PPG and 13.0 RPG, while Isaac Haas isn’t too far back with 18.3 PPG and 3.0 RPG. Vince Edwards is also averaging in double digits for Purdue, with 12.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG and 4.3 APG.
As for Utah State, they’re coming into Tuesday with a 3-0 record so far. The Aggies beat UC Irvine in their first game 72-56, then took out NJIT 93-84. In their most recent appearance, the Aggies took an 85-51 victory over Idaho State, winning the first half 40-27 and the second half 45-24.
On this young season, Jalen Moore leads Utah State with 18.0 PPG and 4.3 RPG, while Koby McEwen is second on 15.0 PPG and 6.3 RPG. Shane Rector and Norbert Janicek are each averaging in double figures for Utah State as well, with Rector averaging 12.0 PPG and 6.3 APG and Janicek holding 11.0 PPG and 4.7 RPG.
Purdue is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up win, and 6-2 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games. Purdue is also 6-2 ATS in their last eight neutral-site games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss.
As for Utah State, they’re 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall, and 5-1 ATS in the last six neutral-site games. Utah State is also 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games, and 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games.
We haven’t seen too much of either one of these teams, but it’s clear Purdue is a pretty good squad. The Boilermakers really tested Villanova, and they should come out on top here. Still, Utah State has some nice balance to their scoring when compared to top-heavy Purdue, so I like the Aggies to get a cover here.
