A pair of undefeated teams will go head to head at the Imperial Arena in Nassau, Bahamas as the VCU Rams and the 20th-ranked Baylor Bears try to advance to the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
The VCU Rams won their 3rd straight contest to open the year, the last being an 81-42 blowout of Binghamton. De’Riante Jenkins led the Rams with a double-double, posting team-highs with 14 points on 4 of 6 from the field, including a pair of 3s to go along with 4 makes on 5 attempts from the foul line in addition to his 10 rebounds. Jenkins was one of 4 Rams to hit double digits in the win, as JeQuan Lewis followed closely behind with 12 points on 4 of 7 shooting, with all 4 makes coming from behind the 3-point line. Jordan Burgess and Samir Doughty each finished with 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting to round out the group, the main difference being Burgess knocking down both of his attempts from behind the arc, while Doughty may have outscored Burgess had he made more than 1 of his 4 attempts from the foul line in the game. Ahmed Hamdy-Mohamed fell just short of making the foursome a group of 5 with 9 points on 3 of 6 from the floor to go along with 3 of 4 from the foul line in the game. It was a balanced effort for VCU as all but one player who stepped on the floor got at least 12 minutes of playing time. As a team, VCU is scoring 75 points per game on 53.2% from the field, the 14th-best mark in the nation. They are also making 40.7% of their shots from downtown but would like to improve on their 61.4% clip from the foul line that sees the team sit 310th out of 347 teams in D-I.

The 20th-ranked Baylor Bears also won their 3rd straight to start the season, with their last contest resulting in an 81-72 victory of Florida Gulf Coast. A total of 5 Bears logged at least 10 points, with former Miami Hurricane Manu Lecomte leading the charge with 19 points on 5 of 8 from the floor, including 2 of 5 from downtown while connecting on 7 of his 8 trips to the free throw line. Al Freeman was right behind Lecomte with 18 points on 5 of 9 shooting, with 2 3-pointers of his own to go along with a perfect 6 for 6 mark from the charity stripe. Johnathan Motley and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. each put up 12 points on the night, with Motley going just 3 for 7 from the field but made up for it by making 6 free throws on 7 tries, while Lual-Acuil Jr. was much more efficient, drilling all 5 of his field goal attempts on the night to go along with a pair of free throws and a team-high 7 rebounds. Terry Maston rounded out the group of 5 with a 10-point night, on 3 of 4 from the floor and 4 of 5 from the free throw line. As a team, Baylor is putting up 74.3 points per game on 47.1% from the field, 36.4% from 3-point range and 76.4% from the free throw line.
VCU is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the Big 12 and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 neutral site games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 overall. Baylor is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games and 2-10 ATS in their last 12 non-conference games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 vs. the A-10.
This should be a great game right from the opening tip, when it comes to making a pick though, I’m going to side with the battle-tested Baylor Bears as I’m not entirely sold on VCU’s first 3 games.
Lay the points with Baylor.
