Nevada vs. Oakland - 11/24/16 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Nevada Wolfpack won their 3rd straight game and improved to 3-1 on the season after defeating the Iona Gaels, 91-76, this past Sunday. Nevada used a strong defensive 2nd half to slow down the high tempo offense of the Gaels and secured the come from behind victory after being down by a 44-34 margin at halftime. Nevada shot 50.0% from the field and did a good job protecting the ball as the Wolfpack committed just 8 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was Jordan Caroline who had a double-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, Nevada is averaging 79.0 ppg on 50.2% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 32.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Nevada has been led by Marcus Marshall (18.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 5.3 apg), Cameron Oliver (18.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.8 bpg), Elijah Foster (12.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg), and Jordan Caroline (11.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.3 apg, 2.3 spg). Defensively, Nevada is allowing their opponents to average 69.8 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field.

The Golden Grizzlies are 26-6-1 ATS in their last 33 games following a straight up win and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. The Wolfpack are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win and 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games.

Oakland had to replace one of the best players in College Basketball last season in Kay Felder, however, has returned three starters and has gotten solid play from Felder’s replacement, Steve Clark, early in the season. Nevada looks poised to be one of the better Mountain West teams this season as they returned 4-starters from a 24-14 team while adding Missouri State transfer Marcus Marshall who can score with the best of them. Oakland is going to be one of the better teams in the Horizon this season however, Nevada has the depth to handle the Golden Grizzles and as I think Oakland will have trouble slowing down the Nevada offense, I’m taking the Wolfpack to cover this small spread.
