Down at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Friday, the Cal State Fullerton Titans and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Jacksonville State enters this game with a 2-3 record on the year. The Gamecocks won their opener against Tulsa 84-73, but then dropped three in a row: 91-65 against Missouri State, 74-67 against Western Kentucky and 79-60 versus TCU. Jacksonville State did get a victory in their last appearance, however, an 81-50 affair against Dalton State.
USA TODAY Sports
Jacksonville State has some good scorers up top, led by Norbertas Giga (13.6 PPG; 8.0 RPG) and Malcolm Drumwright (12.4 PPG; 4.6 APG). Erik Durham is also averaging in double figures for the Gamecocks, posting 11.8 PPG and 4.4 RPG so far this year.
Over on the Cal State Fullerton side, they’re coming into Friday with a 2-2 record so far. The Titans won their opener against Cal Tech 77-28 and followed that up with a 106-100 win over Portland State. Cal State Fullerton dropped their next two games, however, falling 104-88 to Washington and 77-68 to UNLV.
Tre Croggins leads the scoring so far for Cal State Fullerton, bagging 23.7 PPG with 5.3 RPG, while Lionheart Leslie isn’t far back with 15.0 PPG and 5.0 RPG. Jackson Rowe and Kyle Allman are also averaging in double-figures for the Titans this year; Rowe has 13.7 PPG with 6.0 RPG and Allman sits on 12.3 PPG.
Jacksonville State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win of more than 20 points, and 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games. Jacksonville State is also 7-2 ATS in their last nine games following a straight-up win, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven neutral-site games.
As for Cal State Fullerton, they’re 16-34-2 ATS in their last 52 games overall, and 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games following a straight-up loss. Cal State Fullerton is also 1-7 ATS in their last eight non-conference games, and 0-4 ATS in their last four Friday games.
Jacksonville State hasn’t seen any truly elite competition this year yet, but when they’ve been outclassed they’ve folded as expected. Cal State Fullerton has done pretty much the same thing, but to their credit didn’t look half bad against UNLV. The Titans should be more prepared for a tricky game here, and I like their top scorers Croggins and Lionheart. I’ll take Cal State Fullerton to cover here.
