The Wichita State Shockers and the Michigan State Spartans face off on Friday in the Bahamas in college basketball tournament action.
The Wichita State Shockers are 5-1 this season and are coming off of a loss to Louisville on Thursday. Wichita State shot just 31.6 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc but they were ice cold early and when they trailed Louisville by 16 points at the half the game was basically over. Shaquille Marris and Markis McDuffie each had 10 points to lead the Shockers in the loss. Zach Brown had 7 points and Conner Fankamp had 9 points but the Shockers simply couldn’t get the 3 to drop.

The Michigan State Spartans are 3-3 this season and they land in this game after falling apart against Baylor in the second half to lose 58-73. Michigan State shot 43.1 percent from the floor and 30.4 percent from beyond the 3-point arc but it turned into a brick layers convention in the second half. Miles Bridges led the Spartans with 15 points and 5 rebounds in 29 minutes of action. Matt McQuaid had 8 points for MSU, Nick Ward had 7 points, and Joshua Langford had 6 points. Eron Harris was particularly bad for the Spartans going 1 for 9 from the floor and 1 for 5 from beyond the 3-point arc. Michigan State has not looked good when playing against the better teams.
Wichita State is 7-2 against the spread in their last 9 non-conference games, 21-8 against the spread in their last 29 games, and 4-12 against the spread in their last 16 neutral site games. Michigan State is 5-1-1 against the spread against the MVC, 1-6 against the spread in their last 7 neutral site games, and 20-8 against the spread following a loss.
Wichita State is the favotrite here and while I feel Michigan State will improve their shooting was less than inspiring yesterday and until I see better from them I am on the other side.
