The Belmont Bruins look to erase their slow start in college basketball by upsetting the Rhode Island Rams.
By Belmont Bruins standards a 1-2 start to the season is a bit painful and already has some people that projected them as a major player in the Ohio valley jumping ship. The Bruins will be looking to bounce back from a 78-61 loss to a very good Florida squad where a 12 point deficit in the opening half was too much to overcome. The Bruins never got going offensively at 39 % shooting but the Gators connected at 45.8% with 20 forced turnovers to forge seven more looks at the basket and seven more field goals which ended this for the Bruins. Evan Bradds led the Belmont attack with 17 points on 7-9 from the floor with Kevin McClain tossing in ten. Amanze Egekeze and Taylor Barnette each chipped in with eight points but Belmont needed more options.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rhode Island Rams are considered to be one of the top contenders in the Atlantic Ten but their two game winning streak came to an end in a 75-65 defeat at the hands of Duke on Sunday as a 7.5 point underdog. URI trailed 45%-42% in marksmanship but this came down to the Blue Devils hitting a few more baskets and free throws in a boxscore that was remarkably close. Jared Terrell led the Rhode Island attack with 22 points on 8-15 from the field with Hassan Martin netting 15 points and grabbing six boards on 7-12 accuracy while Stanford Robinson and EC Matthews combined for 19 points.
Under is 6-2 in BEL last 8 non-conference games.
Belmont is a favorite in the Ohio valley and Rhode Island is a favorite in the Atlantic ten so I think we have to look at what each team has done this season so far…
