The Charlotte 49ers look to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 108-103 defeat at the hands of South Carolina Upstate. Charlotte actually held a 9-point halftime lead before the Spartans clawed their way back, before taking the game in OT. Braxton Ogbueze led the team with 28 points on 9 of 17 from the field, with 6 3s and 4 of 5 from the foul line. Andrien White and Jon Davis followed closely behind with White scoring 19 points on 5 threes and some free throws while Davis logged 18 points to go along with 5 boards. JC Washington was the only other 49er to score double figures in the game with 12 points. Anthony Vanhook led the team with 8 rebounds on the night, his average on the season along with a team-high 5.5 assists per game. The aforementioned Davis leads the team with 23 points per game. As a team, Charlotte is scoring 95 points per game, the 8th-best in the country, on 48.7% from the floor while making the 2nd-most threes in the nation at 48.4%. The 49ers also hold the 26th-best free throw percentage, making them at a 78.6% clip.
Davidson is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. C-USA and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the over is 21-6 in their last 27 Saturday games. Charlotte is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 18-7 ATS in their last 25 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 vs. the A-10. Davidson is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
This should be a great game, and while Davidson has had the more challenging schedule, and done well against it, I’m worried about their scoring after Gibbs and Aldridge. If Charlotte can lock those two down for Davidson, it’ll be a wrap early considering the 49ers have one of the best offenses to start the season.
It’s a lean at best, but I’ll side with Charlotte and the points in this spot.
