USA TODAY Sports

The Nebraska Cornhuskers dropped to 4-1 on the season after they were defeated by the 14th ranked UCLA Bruins, 82-71, this past Friday. Nebraska used a 23-13 run to start the 2nd half to fight back from a 38-25 halftime deficit, however, the Cornhuskers couldn’t do enough to ever the hump and never led in the 2nd half. Nebraska struggled a bit on the offensive end as they shot just 38.7% from the field and 25.0% (6-24) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Cornhuskers was Glynn Watson Jr. who had 27 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, Nebraska is averaging 73.8 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Cornhuskers average 6.4 three-pointers per game on 34.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Nebraska has been led by Tai Webster (17.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.6 apg), Glynn Watson (15.6 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.2 apg), Ed Morrow (11.2 ppg, 7.0 rpg), and Jack McVeigh (10.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg). Defensively, Nebraska is holding their opponents to an average of 62.6 ppg on 39.6% shooting from the field. Nebraska comes into this matchup with a rebound margin of 6.0 (ranked T-83rd) and average 4.4 bpg (T-97th).

The Hokies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Cornhuskers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. ACC opponents and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.

Virginia Tech picked up a solid 20 wins last season and with the majority of that team returning, could be a dark horse in the ACC this season. Nebraska lost some big names in Shavon Shields and Andrew White III however, have had a nice start to the season led by their defensive that ranks 38th in College Basketball in scoring defense. Virginia Tech has a bunch of talent on the offensive end however, I like how Nebraska has looked against Dayton and UCLA and as I think the Cornhuskers will be able to limit the offensive attack of the Hokies, I’m taking Nebraska and the points.
