The George Mason Patriots take to the road to face off against the Northern Iowa Panthers on Wednesday night.
The George Mason Patriots look to build on their 3-game win streak. Their most recent outing resulted in an 80-77 overtime win over Bradley. GMU’s leading scorer Marquise Moore did just that once again as he recorded a game-high 20 points on 6 of 11 from the floor to go along with a team-high 8 rebounds on the night. Ian Boyd came 2nd with 13 points including 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Karmari Newman, Otis Livingston II and Jalen Jenkins recorded 11,10 and 10 points respectively as well. Marquise Moore leads George Mason by averaging a near double-double per game with 18 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season while Otis Livingston II is the team’s top assist man, averaging 3.4 helpers per game. As a team, George Mason is scoring 74.1 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 26.3% from behind the arc, which is also the 5th-worst percentage from 3-point range in the nation. The Patriots are also making 69.6% of the free throws this season.

The Northern Iowa Panthers look to rebound after back-to-back losses to #7-ranked Xavier by a combined score of 131-101. The 2nd meeting at Xavier resulted in a 64-42 drubbing which was led by Jeremy Morgan’s 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting, including 4 threes. Klint Carlson followed in 2nd with 11 points and 3 rebounds, which was tied for the team-high in boards on the night, which had to have been a contributing factor in the defeat. To put it into perspective, outside of Carlson and Morgan, the rest of the Panthers shot a combined 5 of 24 for 17 points. Jeremy Morgan leads the Panthers in pretty much every statistical category, putting up team-highs with 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 3.8 steals and 2.6 blocks per game. As a team, Northern Iowa is scoring 66 points per game on 43.4% from the field, 40.2% from behind the arc and 69% from the foul line.
George Mason is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. the MVC and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games while the over is 19-7 in their last 26 games overall. Northern Iowa is 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall and 18-7-3 ATS in their last 28 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. the A-10.
I have no clue why this line is so big. Northern Iowa is clearly struggling after losing the majority of their roster from last season, and just got destroyed by Xavier in back-to-back outings. Outside of Jeremy Morgan, UNI struggles to score which won’t work against a George Mason team that is playing with confidence after winning 3 straight. By no means is George Mason on the same level as Xavier, but this is way too many points.
Give me George Mason and the points.
