USA TODAY Sports

The 20th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks improved to 6-0 on the season after defeating the 18th ranked Syracuse Orange, 64-50, this past Saturday. South Carolina turned in another outstanding defensive performance and had little trouble securing the victory after taking a 37-26 halftime lead. South Carolina held Syracuse to 31.8% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Orange by a 37-30 margin. Leading the way for the Gamecocks was PJ Dozier who had a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. On the season, South Carolina is averaging 75.5 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks are averaging 7.3 three-pointers per game on 37.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Carolina has been led by Sindarius Thornwell (20.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.5 bpg), Duane Notice (10.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.2 spg), PJ Dozier (10.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.7 apg, 2.0 spg), and Maik Kotsar (9.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg). Defensively, South Carolina is holding their opponents to an average of 56.7 ppg on 32.3% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks have been outstanding on the boards as they currently have a rebound margin of 10.2 which ranks 17th in College Basketball.

The Catamounts are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games and 6-16-1 ATS in their last 23 games overall. The Gamecocks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 18-8 ATS in their last 26 home games.

Vermont is going to be one of the better teams in the American East this season and although they did struggle on the road at Providence, the Catamounts have looked solid against above average teams in Wofford, Hofstra, and Houston. South Carolina has been one of the earlier surprises of the season and have been led by their defense which ranks 5th in the country in scoring defense and 4th in defensive FG%. I expect this to be a low scoring game and although a line might not be released for this game, my initial thoughts would be to take Vermont and the large amount of points that they would get.
