The Canisius Golden Griffins and the Cleveland State Vikings meet Saturday in college basketball action from Wolstein Center. Canisius is skidding at 0-3 so far. The Griffins lost by nine points to St. Bonaventure in their last game. As for Cleveland State, they’re 1-2 this year. The Vikings got their first win over Edinboro in their last game. Canisius played Miami in their first outing of the year. The Griffins fell behind 37-31 at the break and ultimately lost 77-67. In game two, the Griffins recorded another loss. That one came 83-71 at the hands of East Carolina.

Canisius had a 31-26 halftime edge on St. Bonaventure in their last game. The Griffins were outscored 43-29 from there however, and ended  up losing 69-60. Top scorer Malek Green finished on 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Over on the Cleveland State side, their first game was a matchup versus BYU. The Vikings trailed most of the way in that one during a 69-59 loss. In their next game against Ohio, Cleveland State lost again. This time it was a 67-56 result that dropped the team to 0-2.

Cleveland State got their first win of the year during their last outing against Edinboro. The Vikings jumped out to a 39-27 lead and were able to hold it from there in a 75-61 victory. Both D’Moi Hodge and Yahel Hill scored 13 points apiece, combining for four assists.

Cleveland State is 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 18-8-1 ATS in their last 27 overall. The Vikings are 10-4-1 ATS in the last 15 at home.

Meanwhile, the Griffins are 7-22 ATS in their last 29 as a favorite and 21-8-2 ATS in the last 31 as an underdog. The over is 4-1-1 in Canisius’ last six after an ATS win.

PICK: I’m going to go with Cleveland State, but probably staying away. Neither one of these teams has done all that great so far. In any case, the Vikings played a pretty solid overall game against Edinboro for their first win on Tuesday. six different Cleveland State players had at least eight points; it was a nice offensive effort overall.

As for the Griffins, they had a good first half against St. Bonaventure but ultimately shot just 31.8 percent from the floor. I like Canisius to make a game out of this one (and it should be a competitive matchup) but I think Cleveland State will look better after their win.
