Miami Hurricanes Vs. Florida State Seminoles 2/26/12
Mark’s Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread
Florida State fell out of a three way tie for first with Duke and North Carolina by virtue of an eight point home loss to the Blue Devils on Thursday. The Seminoles likely need to sweep the three remaining games on their schedule and get some help to have another shot at the top spot. FSU has now gone 3-2 in their last five contests with their offense producing just 60 points in a loss to Boston College and their defense struggling against Duke. The FSU attack didn't shoot the ball well at less than 40% from the field and were only 12 of 20 from the line so the Noles never found the shooting touch. The Blue Devils didn't set the world on fire with 42% marksmanship but hit their threes at at a 13 of 26 pace and sank 12 free throws. Leading scorer Michael Snaer pumped in 18 points with Bernard James posting 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. All nine players found the scoring column but Florida State needed another go to scorer.
Miami's dream of making a move for the top spot in the Atlantic Coast is no more with the Hurricanes having lost three of four to find themselves in a fifth place tie with North Carolina State at 7-6. The Hurricanes have a legitimate chance at climbing up to fourth but need to get back to consistent scoring and defense that have cost them in each one of their latest defeats. Tuesday's loss to Maryland was especially disappointing with FSU having the lead throughout but were never able to pull away and put the Terrapins away. Instead, the Terps made shots at crunch time and Miami didn't. The Hurricanes hit at around 42% from the floor and sank six long balls but the decisive stat was the Terps nearly 47% shooting. Terrell Stoglin paced the offense with a game high 20 minutes, followed by 16 points and six pulls from James Padgett while Sean Mosley added 15 points and another six rebounds.
Florida State stays in the hunt for the top spot in the ACC with a win and Miami moves up to fourth should they win. I am a Hurricanes fan and it will take their best effort of the year to win and that still might be wishful thinking...
Mark’s Pick: Miami -1.5 (down to -1)
