Boston College Eagles Vs. Florida State Seminoles 2/8/12: Mark's Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread

Boston College looks for the biggest upset in the conference this season against visiting Florida State.

The Silvio O. Conte Forum and the Boston College Eagles welcome the Florida State Seminoles to town for an ACC match up. The Eagles come in on a six game slide following a 51-47 loss at Georgia Tech while the Seminoles defeated Virginia 58-55 for win number seven in a row.

After opening their ACC schedule with a surprising blowout defeat at the hands of Clemson, Florida State has punished some of the top names in the ACC since with seven consecutive victories. The Noles have looked like the team to beat with wins over Duke, North Carolina and Virginia but the room for error is still small with the Tar Heels at 7-1 also and Duke just a game behind in second. What makes FSU so dangerous is their ability to score and defend and against Virginia it was their trademark defense that came to the rescue although both teams made shots in the half court at 47-48%. The box score was very close but the key was Florida State's 5 of 12 from distance and the Cavaliers 6 of 18 on threes combined with a 10-5 edge in offensive rebounds. Okaro White led FSU with 13 points and five rebounds with Xavier Gibson adding ten points and five pulls while all nine Seminoles found the scoring column.

Boston College entered ACC action struggling so it was very surprising when the Eagles opened their schedule at 2-1. It has been all down hill since with BC suffering through six straight defeats although the last two have been by a combined total of nine points. The common thread has been a challenged offense combined with a defense that has been scored on. The defensive end of the floor wasn't to blame against Georgia Tech with the Yellow Jackets held to 41% from the floor but the Eagles responded with only 35%. The stats were relatively even except for shooting percentage with BC going 9 of 22 on twos and 8 of 27 on threes. Matt Humphrey paced the Boston College defense with 15 points followed by Lonnie Smith with ten points but eight others combined for only 22 points.

Florida State is scary good the way they have been playing with scoring and defense that might be the best combination in the ACC and more than Boston College can handle. Not my favorite play but I'm taking the points on the Eagles and hoping the worse team in the ACC can keep from being stomped at home...

Mark’s Pick: Boston College +14
