Miami Hurricanes Vs. Boston College Eagles 3/3/12
Mark’s Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread
Boston College enters the final game of the regular season with nothing more than the basic urge to win and in doing so, avoid the conference basement. This scenario could have been a non issue if the Eagles would have won a game or two in the past six weeks but instead BC dropped 10 of 12. Of course, the entire season might have had a different look if Boston College had an offense with a little more punch...actually a lot more punch. The Eagles have been outscored 68-59 on the year which is the poorest offense in the conference but the Eagles came through against a Georgia Tech squad that isn't known for scoring either. The Eagles out shot their counterparts 42% to 38% with the big difference being 10 of 24 from long range. The Eagles perimeter shooting and slightly better marksmanship offset 16 more GT shots. Matt Humphrey led the attack with 13 points with Ryan Anderson posting ten points and nine rebounds.
With Miami in a four way tie for fourth and one game left, the best the Hurricanes can hope for is to stay in fourth and hope the three others lose. That might be asking for a small miracle but it won't matter if the Canes lose. This is a must win contest coming on the heels of five losses in seven games and what this team has to do is continue to put the ball in the basket and get physical at both ends of the floor. The only team who was physical Wednesday was North Carolina State who weathered a last minute Canes rally for the win. The Wolfpack trumped the Hurricanes defense on 50% marksmanship while Miami stayed alive with 22 offensive rebounds and 17 more shots but their backs were against the wall with the shots not falling at only 36% including 8 of 29 from distance. Rion Brown led four DD scorers with 15 points, followed by Malcolm Grant with 14 points while Durand Scott and Reggie Johnson posted ten points apiece while combining for 19 rebounds.
Miami has to have this game and while this should be no problem, covering this ugly spread might be. This obviously leaves us open for a back door cover or the canes taking their foot off the gas...
Mark’s Pick: Miami -16
