Vermont Catamounts Vs. Stony Brook Seawolves
1/18/13 Mark’s Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread
Stony Brook has been playing well the entire season thus far and have won five in a row and eight of ten to sit in a two way tie atop the America East at 4-0. Plenty of scoring and airtight defense have been the Seawolves calling card making them a top threat in the conference. Both ends of the floor dominated an out manned Boston U 75-48 with the Seawolves leading by 14 at the break and never letting up. SB shook the nets at 52.7% overall including 9-18 on threes while the Terriers were held to only 31% and 8-27 from long range which was their only hope of staying competitive. Dave Coley led the scoring assault with 21 points, with Tommy Brenton and Jameel Warney adding 12 points and combining for 24 rebounds while ten players scored overall.
It seems as if Vermont is always sniffing around at the top of the America East and I don't see 2012-13 being any different. The Catamounts have been very fond of defense which has easily been their strength and led to victories in seven of ten. A 61-37 rout of Binghamton was the team's most stifling effort at the defensive end of the floor to date with the Bearkats hitting at 39% with 2-16 mark from long range while committing 21 turnovers. On the flip side, Vermont hit ay only 40.7% but sank four more threes and eight more free throws and accumulated 13 more looks at the basket. Trey Blue led the Catamounts offense with 19 points with Clancy Rugg tossing in 16, while Brendan Kilpatrick and Sandro Carissimo combined for another 17 points.
I believe that Stony Brook is the best team in the America East but I also know that writing off Vermont is nothing short of foolish. This might be a pretty good game to watch as opposed to bet but I'll give it a shot...
