Arkansas Razorbacks Vs. South Carolina Gamecocks 2/11/12: Mitch's Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread

Arkansas and South Carolina meet in Saturday SEC college hoops.

The Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet on Saturday in SEC college basketball action.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are a greatly improved team over what we saw just a season ago but in Mike Anderson’s first year his biggest hurdle and the one he has yet to overcome is winning on the road. Arkansas is 4-5 in the SEC, 16-0 at home this season, and in a three way tie for fifth place in the conference. B.J. Young is averaging 13.9 points, Mardracus Wade is averaging 11.1 points, and Rickey Scott is averaging 10.1 points. As a team the Hogs are averaging 73.5 points and they are shooting 43.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.3 points and their opponents are shooting 41.4 percent. Arkansas is just a different team at home and on the road this season.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are the bottom feeders of the SEC this year and it’s safe to say Darrin Horn’s team is struggling mightily. South Carolina is 1-8 in the SEC, 1-6 on the road this year, in 12th and last place in the conference standings, and they have lost their last four games. Malik Cooke is averaging 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds, Bruce Ellington is averaging 10.7 points, and Anthony Gill is averaging 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds. As a team SC is averaging 62.3 points and they are shooting 41 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.5 points and their opponents are shooting 44.7 percent. Any win the Gamecocks can get at this point would be a huge morale boost.

Arkansas is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 1-8 against the spread in their last nine games against a team with a losing record, and 3-1-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover. South Carolina is 2-6 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover, 3-9 against the spread following a loss, and 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 Saturday games. The home team is 8-2 against the spread in the last 10 meetings of these two.

I don't see a ton of points here and for my free pick I'll take the under. I also have a pick on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area.

Mitch’s Pick: Under 137
