South Carolina Gamecocks Vs. Georgia Bulldogs 2/15/12
Mitch’s Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread
Two teams who haven’t had much to play for this season play to beat their bitter rivals as the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Georgia Bulldogs meet in an SEC college basketball match up.
It’s been a dreadful year for Darrin Horn and his South Carolina Gamecocks and they have lost five games in a row. South Carolina is 1-9 in SEC play, 8-6 at home this season, and they are in 12th and last place in the conference standings. Malik Cooke is averaging 12.1 points and 5.0 rebounds, Bruce Ellington is averaging 10.6 points, and Anthony Gill is averaging 7.9 points and 4.8 rebounds. As a team SC is averaging 62.4 points and they are shooting 41 percent while defensively they are allowing 65 points and their opponents are shooting 45 percent. A win over their hated rival could bring at least some joy to a fan base who has been suffering this year.
The Georgia Bulldogs have some momentum going as Mark Fox’s team has won back to back games and they are back to .500 overall on the season. UGA is 3-7 in the SEC, 2-6 on the road this season, and they are in 10th place in the conference standings. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is averaging 14.5 points and 5.3 rebounds, Gerald Robinson is averaging 14 points, and Dustin Ware is averaging 8.1 points. As a team Georgia is averaging 61.9 points and they are shooting 39.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.2 points and their opponents are shooting 42.3 percent. Georgia appears to be rallying of late and with the wins over Arkansas and Mississippi State they have proved they can beat quality teams.
South Carolina is 3-10 against the spread following a loss, 1-4 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven Wednesday games. Georgia is 3-11 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread, 4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 3-13 against the spread following a win. The Favorite has covered in eight of the last 10 meetings of these two.
This should be a lower scoring game and even with the total expecting it I like the under here. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I’ll post that in the Premium Area.
Mitch’s Pick: Under 121.5
