USC Trojans Vs. Marquette Golden Eagles
11/21/12 Mitch’s Free College Basketball Pick Against the Spread
The Marquette Golden Eagles and the USC Trojans face off on Wednesday in Maui after winning their games on Tuesday.
The Marquette Golden Eagles lost on Monday afternoon in Maui on a buzzer beater to Butler but bounced back on Tuesday blowing out Mississippi State. Buzz Williams has a nice mix of players and after losing his top two players from a year ago he has a team that looks like will only get better as the year goes on. As a team Marquette is averaging 77 points, 16.5 assists, and they are shooting 48.1 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 62.5 points, 10.8 assists, and their opponents shoot 39.4 percent. Vander Blue is averaging 12.8 points, Davante Gardener is averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds, and Trent Lockett is averaging 9.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. Marquette looks to be deep and a tough out.
The USC Trojans bounced back from being blown out by Illinois by knocking off Texas on Tuesday. Kevin O’Neill’s team clearly has a lot of work to do if they are going to compete in a much improved Pac-12. As a team USC is averaging 68 points, 13 assists, and they shoot 42.5 percent while defensively they allow 66 points, 11.2 assists, and their opposition shoots 39.5 percent. J.T. Terrell is averaging 11.8 points, Eric Wise is averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds, and Byron Wesley is averaging 9.2 points. USC will need to play at the top of their game to get a win in this spot.
Marquette is 3-8-1 against the spread in their last 12 non-conference games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five Wednesday games, and 1-4 against the spread following a win. USC is 7-20 against the spread in their last 27 games overall, 3-10 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 0-7 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread.
The total in this one is set at 133.5 and I have this one going over, but barely, and that will be my free pick. I also have play on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as making it available for individual purchase.
Mitch’s Pick: over 133.5
