No. 7 Brigham Young Cougars (30-5) vs No. 2 Kansas State Wildcats (27-7)

NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament West Regional Round Two

Saturday March 20, 2010  Oklahoma City, OK   8:10 PM EST

The Line: Kansas State - 4

Brigham Young and Kansas State battle it out in Oklahoma City with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen going to the winner.

Kansas State looked very impressive blowing North Texas out of the building. The Wildcats put on an exhibition of passing, shooting, and team work as they won by 20 in a game they could have named their number hey wanted to win by. Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente were dominant when it mattered as KSU emptied their bench and 13 players registered playing time and points. K-State shot an overwhelming 50.8 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from beyond the three point line. Overall the Cats played right to their season scoring number of right around 8 as they scored 82 in this effort with the aforementioned shooting being about five percent better than their season average. Kansas State barely won the battle of the boards at 55-49 but in this game it was irrelevant to the outcome as it was over by halftime. The Wildcats will try and carry their momentum into this game.

Brigham Young outlasted Florida in double overtime to hold on and make it to this game. Jimmer Fredette was all that was advertised as he pumped in 37 and when the Cougars really needed to find someone else to step up and help out Fredette, their prayers were answered when Michael Loyd poured in 26, many of those don the stretch when Fredette was blanketed. BYU shot 49.2 percent from the floor, right in line with their season average of 48.5 and they were a lights out 43.5 percent from beyond the three point line. BYU had some problems on the boards against the Gators but they shot well enough to overcome it. For the year teams shot 40.8 percent against the Cougars and averaged 65.9 points per game. BYU will need to step it up another level if they want to make it another round.

Kansas State is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six neutral site games, and 6-2 against the spread when playing a team with a winning record. BYU is 4-0 against the spread in their last four conference games, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 overall, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five NCAA Tournament games as an underdog.

This should be a solid game but I just don't see BYU having the overall guns to hang with this KSU team. Clemente and Pullen are going to be a handful all the way in from here and I don't think BYU Packs enough punch to slow them down.
