Bowling Green Falcons Vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles
10/27/12 Mark’s Free College Football Pick Against the Spread
Eastern has found an offense the past several weeks with 95 points to their credit so most are asking if this trend will continue or will the Eagles continue to light up the scoreboard. EMU knocked off visiting Army 48-38 in week eight for their first win in 2012 behind a resurgent offense that racked up 577 yards and 27 first downs while controlling the ball for nearly 36 minutes. Bronson Hill gave the ground attack a go to guy with a monster 185 yard day which included a 42 yard scoring run while he also hauled in a 41 yards TD pass. Tyler Benz (19-31/369) had a huge game in the air with five touchdowns and a pick while the defense gave up 413 rushing yards but did force five fumbles and recovered two.
Bowling Green has a legitimate shot at the MAC East title but have to win out and hope unbeaten Ohio and Kent State stumble. The Falcons are riding a four game winning streak behind decent scoring and above average work on the defensive side of the football. We saw both units live up to this description in a 24-0 victory at Massachusetts despite some not too pretty offensive numbers. BGSU managed to out gain the Minutemen 282-118 with their defense setting up the O with four interceptions. The offense needed help with less than a 100 rushing yards while committing 15 penalties for 130 yards. The short passing attack of Matt Schilz (21-35/188) was just enough with a pair of scores while the defense returned a pick to the house.
My concern with Bowling Green is a lack of scoring punch which means relying on their D to get the job done much too often. That is dangerous with a revitalized offense of Eastern Michigan coming to town so points might be necessary. I detest this spread but I'm simply going with the team that should cover if they play their game...
Mark’s Pick: Bowling Green -14
