Kansas State Wildcats Vs. Iowa State Cyclones 12/3/11 Mitch’s Free College Football Pick Against the Spread
The Kansas State Wildcats look for their 10th win of the season as they host the upset minded Iowa State Cyclones.
It’s been a magical year for Bill Snyder and the Kansas State Wildcats as there was so little expected from this team that accomplished so much. Collin Klein is one of the more under rated players in college football this season but he has been spectacular grinding out first downs and manufacturing yards. For the season Klein has completed 58.5 percent of his passes for 1,587 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 1,013 yards and 25 touchdowns. John Hubert’s numbers don’t look all that impressive but his 4.7 yards per carry average and 813 yards all seem to come when the Cats need it most. Chris harper has 39 catches and five touchdowns and Tyler Lockett has 18 catches and three scores. Defensively KSU has 17 interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and 17 sacks and they have a plus 11 turnover margin. Arthur Brown leads in tackles with 83, David Garrett has 70, and Nigel Malone has seven interceptions. Getting to double digit wins would be the icing on the cake in Snyder’s remarkable career.
The Iowa State Cyclones haven’t had the big season their opponents in this game have had but still Paul Rhoads’ team has pulled some big upsets and find themselves bowl eligible. ISU has an injury list a mile long and don’t have the depth of many of the other Big 12 teams but it hasn’t stopped them from grinding it out and competing week after week. Jared Barnett has taken over at QB where he has completed 50 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and five interceptions but he’s also averaging 4.8 yards per carry and had 409 yards on the ground. James White is one of the last healthy backs for the Cyclones and he’s averaging 4.6 yards per carry and has eight touchdowns and Jeff Woody is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and has three touchdowns. Darius Reynolds has 37 catches and seven touchdowns and Aaron Horne has 33 catches as Iowa State tries to fill in for the injured Josh Lenz. The Iowa State defense has 11 interceptions, 13 fumble recoveries, and 13 sacks and have a minus six turnover differential. Jake Knott has 104 tackles, A.J. Klein has 98 tackles, and Jacques Washington has 75 tackles to lead the Cyclone defense. A win in this one would be a huge finish to what has been a year to build on in Ames.
Kansas State is 5-1 against the spread when playing teams with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, and 17-5 against the spread in their last 22 Big 12 games. Iowa State is 4-0 against a team with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five Big 12 games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record. Iowa State is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games at Kansas State.
While we have a double digit spread Kansas State is that much of a better team. While these teams are similar styles KSU simply does it better.
