Outback Bowl South Carolina Gamecocks Vs. Michigan Wolverines
1/1/13 Steve’s Free College Football Pick Against the Spread
The Michigan Wolverines had a disappointing season in 2012, taking a step back from a season ago. The Wolverines finished the season at 8-4, but were still a respectable 6-2 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines still have a solid offense, but Michigan's attack definitely took a step back this season as the Wolverines are averaging just 30 points per game. DeNard Robinson missed some time for the Wolverines, and incorporating the new signal caller Devin Gardner into the game plan took some time. The Wolverines defense was outstanding a season ago, but in 2012 the Wolverines were gashed against the better offenses they faced, including the Buckeyes and the Crimson Tide.
The South Carolina Gamecocks had an emotional season in 2012 after the Gamecocks lost Lattimore to a horrible season ending injury. The Gamecocks finished the season with a mark of 10-2 overall however, while going 6-2 in SEC play with their only losses coming against the Tigers and the Gators in consecutive weeks on the road. South Carolina owns the 11th ranked scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 17.4 points per game on average this season.
The Wolverines went 5-7 against the spread this season, while South Carolina went 8-4 against the number in 2012.
I've looked at the Gamecocks here, but my play will be on the total. Michigan is outclassed here, and there is still some issue with Robinson's health for the Wolverines. SC has a strong offense but the Wolverines are no slouch defensively and I look for Michigan to come out looking for the win as the Big Ten has played with a chip on their shoulder this Bowl season.
