Edmonton Oilers +130 (8-8-0-1)

@ Ottawa Senators -150 (7-5-1-1)

7:30 ET

Over/Under 5.5

Here’s a cross-Conference, Canadian matchup between two fairly average teams. Both teams started off playing well in spots but have struggled as October has turned to November. Edmonton kicked off a 5-game road swing recently with a shocking 5-3 win over Colorado, a team that has been “money in the bank” at home. Edmonton should be feeling pretty good about themselves following that victory, which could mean one of two things: 1) It gives them a boost of confidence and they keep up the momentum or 2) they congratulate themselves on a successful road trip and proceed to turn in a stinker tonight. Khabibulin has been steady in front of a banged up Edmonton squad all year. When they’ve been successful, he’s been a big reason and when they’ve struggled, it hasn’t been his fault. Prior to that win in Colorado, Edmonton had dropped 6 out of 7, including all 4 road games they played during that period. The question remains, who are the real Edmonton Oilers? When you look at Edmonton’s injury list, it’s a mile long, but it’s not riddled with star players. However, the injury bug has got to take a toll on your overall team depth eventually and it’s been catching up with the Oilers of late. Ottawa’s a bit better than a .500 team and they have plenty of offensive weapons in Alfredsson, Spezza, and Michalek along with others. Goaltending was a question mark for me with the unproven Pascal Leclaire taking the reins and he has proven me correct in the early going compiling only a meek .897 save percentage. The Senators will need better than that to make any real noise in the East this year. They’ve been fair to middling at home thus far going 4-3-1-1 and having lost 2 of their last 3. They often go to OT and shootouts at home with mixed results. Ottawa is fairly healthy at home tonight for this matchup with Edmonton and should be well positioned to get back on the winning track. Edmonton is banged-up with a long line to the Jacuzzi in the trainer’s room. Even healthy, this Edmonton team has not been a good road club at all. This one screams Ottawa.
