Anaheim Ducks +130 (6-7-1-1) at New Jersey Devils -150 (11-4-0-0) Anaheim begins a four game road trip tonight in New Jersey against the red-hot Devils. Anaheim has struggled all season to find their mojo but they are coming off two convincing home wins against Nashville and Phoenix. There are no major injuries that the Ducks have had to contend with this year with the exception of goalie J.S. Giguere who remains out with a nagging pulled groin. But, the Ducks can't hang their head on that as an excuse because Jonas Hiller has probably usurped Giguere as the #1 in Anaheim anyway. The Ducks are a team that should probably be more successful than they have been ths far. They have a good core group of forwards with the excellent Getzlaf/Ryan/Perry line leading the way. The New Jersey Devils are playing excellent, Jacques LeMaire, defensive hockey right now. OK - I tried to use every euphemism I could think of to describe the neutral zone trap, but alas, a rose by any other name....all right, you get the picture. Oddly, the Devils have been far more successful on the road than they have been at home. In fact, they are unbeaten on the road with a perfect 8-0 mark. There is a good reason for this. Teams that live and die on the trap tend to play better on the road because they stick to that game plan like glue away from their own building. At home, on the other hand, there is sometimes a palpable tendency to try to do too much, "show off" for the fans (i.e. stray from the dump and chase, cycle, clog up the middle game plan). You'll notice that the over/under today has crept down to 5 (rather than the more standard 5.5 or even 6). The bookies are on to New Jersey and have started adjusting that number downward. I like New Jersey to win today but I don't love that low over/under. In fact, I'm tempted to take the over, but I fear that is what the bookies are baiting me to do by shaving that half goal. Stick with the Devils winning a 3-2 game tonight. That low over under will probably push.
