It’s Monday once again, which means it’s time for the first of our biweekly examinations of the waiver wire in fantasy baseball. Today we’re checking out pitchers, and the good news is that there are some intriguing arms out there for your consideration if you’re in the market. Let’s take a closer look at the available names and see if they’re right for your roster.

Bruce Chen, SP, Kansas City Royals: If you need to add a starter right now, the consensus pick is Chen. He’s been great since joining the starting rotation in KC, posting just five runs through four starts. Overall, he’s 5-0 on the year with a 1.79 ERA and 47 Ks. Chen will face Jose Fernandez and the Marlins tomorrow in what’s sure to be an interesting pitchers’ duel.

Danny Salazar, SP, Cleveland Indians: Salazar has gained some waiver wire interest recently due mostly to his solid potential. He’s only got two starts under his belt, but has allowed five earned and struck out 17 in those two appearances. He should be sticking around at this level for a while, so don’t worry too much about him getting sent down again. If you’re going to grab Salazar, you’d better do it before his start today against the Twins (or just wait to see how he does).

Chris Archer, SP, Tampa Bay Rays: Archer was on quite a run there for a while. He posted four straight wins last month, with just one earned between them. Since then he’s taken a loss against the Giants and been pulled due to forearm tightness. Not exactly inspiring stuff, but he’s worth a pickup ahead of his next start. We’ll see Archer again tomorrow at home against the Mariners.

Tyson Ross, SP, San Diego Padres: Ross has had some nice outings since coming out of the pen and back into the rotation. In his four most recent starts, he’s allowed just four earned and carries a 3-1 record. The surge is causing trust from fantasy owners, and though he can’t be expected to continue his torrid pace, we think he’s evened out. Ross will start Thursday at home against the Mets.

Dane De La Rosa, RP, Los Angeles Angels: De La Rosa is our RP pickup today, and he heads an almost nonexistent crop of potential fantasy targets for that position. He’s coming off his first career save on Friday, and the potential is there for more as the Angels have lost faith in Ernesto Frieri and moved to a matchup-based system. De La Rosa is a low-end option, sure, but he’s all there is for deeper-league saves right now.
