Fantasy Football 2013: Player News and Updates for 8/13
Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Charles, Griffin and more
August 13, 2013
Now that there’s a bit of a lull in the preseason action around the NFL, it’s a good time to take stock of our fantasy drafts, be they finished or upcoming. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy fantasy names out there and see what everyone’s up to. Here’s the latest.
Patrick Crayton, WR, New Orleans Saints: If you’re in a deeper league, you might want to take notice of what’s happening in New Orleans this week. The Saints signed ex-Charger Crayton, and he completed his first practice with the team yesterday. They’ve been needing some help at WR ever since Joe Morgan tore his ACL last week, and Crayton could make an immediate impact.
He’ll be a No. 3 name at best with his new team, but in the Saints’ high-flying offense, that’s not a bad spot to be in. Don’t worry about drafting Crayton, but keep him in mind as a matchup-based fill-in down the road.

Jamaal Charles, RB, Kansas City Chiefs: It looks like Charles (and his owners) dodged a bullet yesterday. The Chiefs’ star RB was injured in practice yesterday, sustaining a foot strain--which apparently sounds worse than it actually is. X-rays were negative, and he’s expected to be fine.
You can go ahead and breathe a sigh of relief, Charles owners. Come Week 1, he’ll still be roaring out of the backfield and tallying yardage worthy of a top-5 fantasy pick.
Robert Griffin III, QB, Washington Redskins: When we stop and think about it, we’re nothing short of amazed at Griffin’s recovery from his knee injury last season. He took another positive step in his comeback yesterday, announcing that he’ll be taking part in team drills as early as today. He also reiterated his intent to start Week 1, and by this point, we’ve no reason to doubt him.
The healthier Griffin gets, the more confident we are about his fantasy standing. Consider placing his draft stock somewhere in the Matthew Stafford area--No. 7 or 8 among quarterbacks. He should provide a nice starter for your team.
T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colt: Sleeper alert--that is, before anyone else finds out about him…
Hilton has been getting accolades piled on him from all across his team, and so far has looked great in training camp and preseason (he had a big TD grab from backup Matt Hasselbeck in the Colts’ first game). For now, Hilton is listed as No. 3 on the Colts’ depth chart, but consider him just a single notch below Reggie Wayne. If you find him hovering in the mid-20s among wide receivers at your draft, snatch him up.
