TV:

We’ve hit the middle of the week, which is that interesting time on the fantasy baseball schedule where we’re tapering off the early-week series and looking forward to the weekend matchups. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the headlines from this morning and see where some of the noteworthy names are headed. Here’s the latest.

Chris Archer, SP, Tampa Bay Rays: Onetime hot fantasy commodity Archer has cooled considerably over his last trio of starts. Last night against the Mariners, he allowed five runs over five innings of work, including a pair of home runs. That’s the latest in a series of bad days for the youngster, as he’s given up 10 earned in his last three appearances. If there’s any good news here, it’s that Archer seemed okay after injuring his forearm in his last start. He’ll face the Blue Jays at home on Sunday.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Kenley Jansen, RP, Los Angeles Dodgers: Just yesterday, we were remarking on how dominant Jansen had been looking recently. He lost some of that luster yesterday, however, after allowing a walk, a hit and an earned run against the Mets. Still, Jansen managed to bag the save, his 19th of the season. He had previously allowed just one hit and no earned over his prior 10 appearances. You shouldn’t be worried; one look at his 1.96 ERA will calm your concerns.

Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks: After remaining relatively quiet for a while, Goldschmidt is back in a big way recently. He posted a 3-for-5 outing yesterday against the Orioles, a line which included a pair of homers--one of the game-tying and one of the game-winning variety. Goldschmidt has been blowing up recently, so this should come as no surprise. He’s now got five homers in his last 10 games, bringing his season total to 29.

Wilson Ramos, C, Washington Nationals: Ramos owners are probably getting used to this by now. The Nats backstop aggravated his hamstring last night, which marks the third time he’s been injured in that particular area this season. For now, he’s being considered day-to-day, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he missed some time. Ramos owners will have to keep a close watch on the lineup cards over the next few days.

Justin Smoak, 1B, Seattle Mariners: Smoak’s hot August continued yesterday against the Rays. He managed a 2-for-4 line, which included a pair of RBI and a run. That’s been par for the course recently, as he’s hit in nine of his last 10. This month, Smoak has a .375 average with four homers, 10 RBI and 10 runs. Yes, 1B is a deep fantasy position, and no, you probably don’t need Smoak on your roster, but if you can fit him into a utility position he’ll do you some good while his streak continues.
