Fantasy Baseball Daily: Checking in on Kemp, Wright and more
August 28, 2013
The MLB got up and running again yesterday after a relatively quiet day to start out the work week. There are plenty of players to check in on this morning as we saw action from all across the league. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at some of the noteworthy fantasy names out there making headlines. Here’s the latest.
Alex Gordon, OF, Kansas City Royals: We’ve been visiting Gordon’s numbers quite a bit recently, as he’s been tearing it up at the plate. He posted another solid outing yesterday, notching a pair of doubles in a 2-for-5, three-RBI performance against Minnesota. Gordon has now hit in nine of his last 10 games, with seven RBI and nine runs in that span. On the year, he’s batting .268 with 14 homers, 68 RBI, 71 runs and nine stolen bases. The Royals are in Minnesota and Toronto this week.

Craig Kimbrel, RP, Atlanta Braves: Kimbrel continued his masterful season yesterday against the Indians, notching his 42nd save in a clean 1-K performance. That now matches his save total from all of last season, and he’s nabbed them in four straight appearances and eight of his last 10. Kimbrel’s ERA sits at a shiny 1.01, and he leads the next closest RP (Jim Johnson from Baltimore) by two saves. His career high is 46, and it looks like he will eclipse that this year. 50 isn’t out of the question.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS, Colorado Rockies: Tulowitzki missed out on a pair of games this week due to an oblique injury, but he was back out there yesterday against the Giants. He managed to go 1-for-3 in the game, registering a run as well. Tulowitzki has hit in nine of his last 10 appearances, with five multi-hit outings in that span. After today’s finale against San Francisco, the Reds come to town for a weekend set.
Matt Kemp, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: We’ve got what feels like our daily update on Kemp this morning, and the news continues to be good. He was able to run the bases yesterday with no issues, and will try to do the same again today. If he can manage to avoid any setbacks on his injured ankle, Kemp will get a rehab assignment scheduled (that could start as early as tomorrow). If all goes well, he’ll be back early next month. Let’s hope he stays healthy for the remainder of the year.
David Wright, 3B, New York Mets: While we’re on the subject of injuries, let’s take a look at Wright. He’s scheduled to begin taking pitches tomorrow in Florida, and has been running since the weekend. His hamstring is apparently healthy enough to begin a rehab assignment sometime next week, so we could see a return to the lineup in the middle of next month. If all goes well, Wright’s return will coincide with a late-season push by any fantasy owners still in the hunt. Aren’t you glad you didn’t drop him?
