Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Foster, Draft Stock and More

The countdown to the NFL regular season now stands at just four days, so there’s not much time left to tinker with your fantasy roster before you need to get down to business. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players out there who are making headlines this morning and see if we can gauge where their seasons are headed. Here’s the latest.

David Wilson, RB, New York Giants: Late last week, we admitted we were coming around on our opinion of Wilson, who we originally didn’t like all that much in fantasy. His stats and play have taken a turn for the better this preseason, however, and now that fellow RB Andre Brown is sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks with a fractured leg, he’s looking like a very solid option.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin remarked how Wilson will likely take on a heavier workload and get the reps in goal line situations now that Brown is out, which should be music to fantasy owners’ ears. Wilson is looking like a draft-day steal right now, and should be valued right around where Reggie Bush is.

Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans: It’s time for a hard-nosed, realistic look at Foster and exactly what fantasy owners should be expecting out of him. As of right now, we can’t do much but speculate on what his numbers will be, but we can weigh out the factors that will determine his performance in the early-going.
First of all, Foster hasn’t seen any game action at all this preseason. The Texans are being extra careful with his ailing back, and there’s still the question of that calf injury he had during camp. We can only assume Houston will ease him back into action gradually, while allowing backup Ben Tate to do most of the heavy lifting during the first few games. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start Foster for Week 1--as a No. 1 pick, you almost have to start him--but you should definitely temper your expectations throughout the first quarter of the season. Once he gets up to speed, he should be fine, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a solid Plan B sitting on your bench.

Players on the Move: Every so often, we like to revise the fantasy rankings a little bit and check out some names who are rising and falling in the positional lists. We’ve got another batch of quick hits for you this morning, so let’s see who you should be aware of--for better or worse--as we roll toward the season opener.

Value Rising:
Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Indianapolis Colts: Bradshaw seems to be getting healthy (finally), but still hasn’t hit the field yet. If he can play extensively, he’s a steal in the late 20s among RBs.

Jordy Nelson, WR, Green Bay Packers: We’re still not completely sold on Nelson, but it looks like he’s ditching his injuries in time for the opener.

Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns: He’s suspended for the first two games, but Gordon has earned praise from his coaching staff. He’ll emerge with a bang.

Value Falling:
DeMarco Murray, RB, Dallas Cowboys: Not that we necessarily agree with this movement, but it’s there. Murray has been dropping a little bit in drafts, likely due to his injury history and benching in his last on-field action. If healthy, he’s still good to go, though.
Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders: Owners seem to be realizing how bad the Raiders’ offensive line is, and also counting up all the injuries McFadden has had in his career.
Brandon Marshall, WR, Chicago Bears: Marshall is still going very high among wide receivers, but his hip issues are causing many fantasy owners to second-guess his status.
