It’s another big day in the MLB today, as we finish up the early-week series. That means there will be plenty of fantasy considerations in the coming hours, so we owners have got to stay on our toes. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy names out there as we get set for the day’s action. Here’s the latest.

Elvis Andrus, SS, Texas Rangers: Andrus was expected to start yesterday against the Athletics, but you know how expectations go in this game. He’s now missed three consecutive games due to his ailing back, and is still considered day-to-day. He’ll have another shot at getting into the lineup today before the team moves on to L.A. and a series against the Angels beginning Friday. Fantasy owners are definitely missing Andrus’ finesse; he’s got 75 runs and 35 steals on the year thus far.

Matt Kemp, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: We’ve really come to expect this in 2013. Kemp reportedly won’t be coming back to the Dodgers lineup this week, as he doesn’t yet feel comfortable in the batter’s box. The original plan was to get him out there sometime during the Rockies or Reds series, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Kemp will be hitting in simulated games all this week, so keep your fingers crossed that he can get his groove back. Once he does return, the Dodgers will have to do some lineup shuffling with their overabundance of outfielders.

Aroldis Chapman, RP, Cincinnati Reds: Chapman was in fine form yesterday. He bagged his 34th save of the year in style, striking out the side against the Cardinals. It was a welcome return for the Reds’ shutdown ninth-inning man, as he hadn’t seen any action since August 24. Chapman and the gang will be busy at home over the next several days after the Cardinals series concludes, with visits from the Dodgers and the Cubs on the schedule.

Wade Miley, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks: Miley got knocked around pretty badly yesterday against the Blue Jays. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing five earned on eight hits. That was Miley’s second loss in a row, and he hasn’t recorded a W since August 6. He’ll get a chance to try and get things back on track Sunday in San Francisco. Miley is 9-10 on the year with a 3.78 ERA and 127 Ks. Realistically, that’s not too far off what was expected of him at the beginning of the year.

Dexter Fowler, OF, Colorado Rockies: Fowler managed to make it back to the field last night, as the Rockies hosted the Dodgers. He finished with a pair of walks in an 0-for-2 line in his first appearance in the last six games. Fowler may need a few games to get back up to speed, so be patient with him. On the year, he’s hitting .261 with 12 homers, 42 RBI, 69 runs and 18 stolen bases.

Miguel Cabrera, 3B, Detroit Tigers: We’ll mention Cabrera quickly, as he’s been a news item over the past few days. He was back out there last night against the Red Sox, his first action since August 30. Cabrera has been fighting an abdominal strain, but says he plans on being in the lineups from here on out. That’s wonderful news for fantasy owners.
