Week 2 Matchups

Here is a look at players who have good matchups on paper for the second week of the NFL season.  Some of these players will meet expectations and others will not.

Quarterbacks

Boom - Robert Griffin III at Green Bay - RGIII struggled early last week in his first live action against the Eagles. However, Griffin picked things up in the second half and almost led the Redskins on an incredible comeback. The Packers allowed Kaepernick to throw for over 400 yards against them last week, and there is no reason that Griffin can't have a huge game as well. Despite Griffin saying he was not rusty, he was; and now that he has knocked the dust off, RGIII will look to regain his old form this weekend against Green Bay's secondary.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Bust - Brandon Weeden at Baltimore - Weeden is not owned in a lot of leagues, and he is not considered a starter in any league. Weeden is going up against the defense that gave up the most passing yards last week, but the Ravens won't let that happen again.

Running Backs

Boom - Eddie Lacy vs Washington - Lacy did not have a breakout performance in his first NFL game, but that is okay considering his first game was on the road against one of the toughest defenses in the league. Lacy was a bit shaky in the first half last week in San Francisco, but he was able to put together a solid second half. Lacy should be able to carry that momentum over and have a great game at home against a Redskins defense that was gashed by the Eagles last weekend.

Bust - Rashard Mendenhall vs Detroit - If you looked at the fantasy scoreboard last week, it sure looked like Adrian Peterson torched the Lions, but he did not. AP had a huge fantasy game, but the Lions shut him down after his long opening run. The Lions should be able to do the same thing against a much weaker running back in Mendenhall. Arizona has a much improved offense, but it is hard to see them running the ball better than the Vikings.

Wide Receivers

Boom - Harry Douglas vs St. Louis - Douglas had a solid game last week against the Saints, and it was in large part due to Roddy White's injured ankle. Well, Douglas has a few things going for him this week that make him look like a total breakout sleeper. Last week the Rams got torched by Carson Palmer and the Arizona Cardinals aerial attack, and the Falcons have a much stronger passing attack. Also, Julio Jones has been suffering from an injury this week as well, and this could lead to even more targets for Douglas. Since the Falcon's top wide receivers are not 100% and Matt Ryan is more than capable of exposing weaknesses in the Rams' secondary, Harry Douglas is in line to have a very good game.

Bust - Roddy White vs. St. Louis - Thanks to the social media revolution, Roddy White has told us not to play him this weekend. White tweeted that if he does not practice, than fantasy owners should not play him. He did not practice this week, so even though he will be on the field and playing, he should not be started on fantasy teams this week. That is advice from the man himself.

Tight Ends

Boom - Brent Celek vs San Diego - Celek had a respectable fantasy game last week despite only having 2 receptions. This week he goes up against a Chargers defense that gave up 94 yards and 3 touchdowns to the Texans' tight ends. The Charger showed they can put some points on the board, and if this one turns into a high scoring affair, Brent Celek would be in line for a strong fantasy performance.

Bust - Jordan Cameron at Baltimore - Cameron had a breakout game last week against the Dolphins. Cameron looks like the Browns biggest receiving threat, and that is why the Ravens will concentrate on stopping him this week. The Ravens also have to have a chip on their shoulder because of how bad they were beaten last week by the Broncos tight end, Julius Thomas. Cameron looks to be the real deal and he should see plenty of target this week, but the Ravens have been disrespected and are out to stop Cameron.

Defenses

Boom - Bengals vs Pittsburgh - The Bengals defense should have a great performance against the Steelers at home on Monday night. Pittsburgh's offense is in shambles. The Steelers lost their starting center, and they have not been able to run the ball at all in 2013. The Bengals defense left fantasy owners wanting after last week's performance in Chicago, but they should have a nice rebound on Monday night.

Bust - Raiders vs Jacksonville - Last week the Raiders defense had a strong game against the Colts getting four sacks, and the Jaguars had the worst offensive performance of the week giving up 6 sacks. So on paper this one looks like a no brainer, but there is one difference, and that is the Jaguars will have a different quarterback. Chad Henne will replace Blaine Gabbert as Jacksonville's quarterback. Henne is not an all pro QB by any stretch, but he is a career NFL quarterback and he should provide some much needed competency to the position for the Jaguars.
