Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Colston, Gronkowski and more
September 29, 2013
Week 4 in the NFL will continue today, which means there are plenty of fantasy considerations to mull over between now and then. While we’re waiting for kickoff(s), let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy fantasy names and situations out there worth monitoring. Here’s the latest.
Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints: It’s looking like you’ll be able to roll with Colston tomorrow night if you’re an owner. He’s listed as probable for the battle of unbeaten teams against the Dolphins on “Monday Night Football.” Colston has been nursing a foot injury this week, but has also been able to practice fully each day.
Performance-wise, we’re still waiting on a big breakout game from him. He’s lost out on some production due to Saints TE Jimmy Graham’s huge numbers thus far. Still, Colston makes a solid start in pretty much any league, and the big games will come.

Eddie Royal, WR, San Diego Chargers: Royal might not be too bad of an option today, even though he’s coming off a bad game in Week 3. He only managed to post two receptions for 34 yards in Tennessee, but his other two games were flat-out spectacular (114 yards and five touchdowns between them).
Royal and the Chargers will take on the Dallas Cowboys this afternoon in a game that could turn into a shootout relatively quickly. Dallas is vulnerable against the pass, and if the San Diego defense starts giving up points to Tony Romo and the gang, Royal may post another big stat-line. We like him as a WR 3 or flex option.
Patriots Injuries: Well, we all saw this coming in the days leading up to this week’s game. Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola have officially been ruled out for tonight against the Falcons. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy owners, as Gronkowski hasn’t yet played this year in spite of high hopes that he’d be back by now; Amendola, meanwhile, hasn’t played since Week 1 thanks to a nagging groin injury.
As far as return dates, Gronkowski was himself targeting Week 6--according to a report, so we’ll have to see how that pans out. As for Amendola, the fact that he didn’t even make the trip to Atlanta (and Gronk didn’t either, for the record), suggests he’s not as far along in his recovery as many would like.
Falcons Injuries: While we’re on the subject of tonight’s Patriots-Falcons game, let’s head over to the other sideline and check in on a few noteworthy injury concerns for Atlanta. Steven Jackson is once again out, fighting off a nagging hamstring injury that’s left many fantasy owners’ RB2 or flex spots empty for the past couple of weeks. WR Julio Jones (knee) is listed as questionable, but the feeling around the league seems to be that he’ll play.
As has been the case the past couple of weeks, the major concern here is Roddy White. He’s once again questionable due to his high-ankle sprain, and is expected to hit the field in spite of his injury. That said, he’s been a pretty bad fantasy option thus far with just seven grabs for 56 yards through three games. Considering those stat-lines, it’s probably best to leave White on the bench again if you can.
