Week 7 Sleepers: Who to Target in Fantasy

Since we’ve got some key stars sitting out in Week 7 (Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, etc.), there has been a noticeable rise in interest when it comes to sleeper picks in fantasy football. We’ve got a handful of gems in mind for you this morning, so let’s take a closer look at the impending matchups and statistics so we can see if any of these guys are worth a bye-week fill-in start (or maybe even longer) in your league.

Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins: The trendy pick at QB this week is Nick Foles in Philadelphia, but we’re also digging Tannehill. His 52.5 completion percentage last week against Baltimore was dragged down by a few messy drops, and he darn near took his team on an improbable comeback. Sure, he’s only got two touchdowns and three interceptions over his last two games, but he’s got Buffalo at home on this week’s schedule. Even Geno Smith was able to dice up the Bills D, so Tannehill isn’t a bad filler play.

Rueben Randle, WR, New York Giants: Randle has had the hot hand over the past couple of weeks, and we think it’ll keep going. In his last two games, he’s posted three touchdowns and 171 yards, showcasing a chemistry with Eli Manning that no one really saw coming. With the Giants run game still ailing (they’re getting Peyton Hillis ready for a noticeable contribution. Remember him?) you can bet they’ll be sticking with the pass. That means plenty of work for Randle.

Mike Tolbert, RB, Carolina Panthers: When Tolbert scores, the Panthers win. When he doesn’t, they lose. So far, it’s been that simple for the team, and if the trend continues he’ll keep pouring in the numbers. Over the last three games, he’s got three touchdowns and 21 rush attempts. Tolbert has become a focal point in the Panthers’ red-zone offense, so you can bet the trend will continue this weekend against a potentially generous St. Louis Rams defense. If he can get into the end zone, he’ll pay off big-time.

Roy Helu, RB, Washington Redskins: PPR owners, especially, will want to give Helu some consideration this weekend. He’s coming off a 77-yard performance in a loss against the Cowboys, shared between six rushes and four receptions. The Redskins will face off against the Bears in Week 7, and though that sounds like a rough matchup, Chicago is coming off a game in which they allowed an ancient Brandon Jacobs to rack up over 100 yards and two scores. Helu may be able to cash in here.

Kyle Rudolph, TE, Minnesota Vikings: Remember when Rudolph came into the year as a top-shelf fantasy pick at his position? Yeah, that didn’t work out so well. He finally showed some life in Week 6, though, with 97 yards and a score against Carolina. This may be the week to get him back off the bench and hope for a repeat performance, as Rudolph is facing a Giants defense that has given up five touchdowns against tight ends this season. It shouldn’t take much to get him back into the end zone.
