Week 7 injury Update

Key Defensive Injuries

DJ Williams - The Bears lost a key piece to their defense for the rest of the season in their game against the Giants on Thursday night.  D.J. Williams was given the task of replacing the Bears legendary linebacker, Brian Urlacher, and now Williams will have to be replaced.  The Bears defense has been a decent fantasy play this year, but they have started to struggle lately and Williams injury will only make it harder for the Bears to remain an elite fantasy unit.  It looks like its time to sell high on the Bears defense before injuries drive their fantasy stock down.

Jerod Mayo - First the Patriots lose their most formidable defensive player, Vince Wilfork, and now they have lost their best linebacker, Jerod Mayo.  Mayo was the centerpiece to this defense and he is out for season.  Mayo will be very hard to replace.  The bright spot is that the Patriots offensive stars are getting healthy and so the Patriots offense should be able to take some pressure off the defense.  And the Patriots were also able to stop New Orleans with a beatup defensive unit, so the Patriots may remain a viable fantasy play the rest of the season.  If you have invested in the Patriots and play them as your weekly defense, keep a close eye on how they progress and fill the voids left by their two biggest defensive stars.

Demarcus Ware - Ware is arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL, and he is doubtful to play against the Eagles this Sunday.  If Ware is unable to play, than that is a major boost for the Eagles offense, especially Nick Foles.   The Cowboys secondary has not played well this season, and without Ware on the field to pressure Foles, the Cowboys could end up in another shootout.

Key Offensive Injuries

James Jones - Jones suffered a knee injury in the Packers last game, and he may not play this week.  Right now Jones is looking like a gametime decision and fantasy owners need to check his status on Sunday.  Even if Jones gets on the field, he may not produce like he has over the past few weeks.  Jarrett Boykin will see more playing time if Jones does not play, but Jermichael Finley should benefit the most from Cobb's absence this week.  Joe Haden will most likely cover Jordy Nelson and so Aaron Rodgers will be looking at other targets.  Finley appears to be the best candidate to have a huge game because Jones will not be at full strength and Boykin has a major lack of experience.

Justin Blackmon - Blackmon has not practiced much this week and he is questionable to suit up this weekend. Blackmon's return has had a major impact on the Jaguars fantasy value, and particularly on Jones-Drew.  MJD needs Blackmon on the field and if Blackmon does not play, then fantasy owners will need to consider benching MJD.  It is not a coincidence that MJD's numbers have improved since Blackmon returned to the field, and fantasy owners need to keep an eye on Blackmon's status this weekend.

Adrian Peterson - All of a sudden AP does not practice and rumors of him having issues with a hamstring start to circulate.  The Vikings play on Monday night which makes this situation even worse for fantasy owners.  There is no real reason to believe AP won't play on Monday, but there has not been a lot of information released about his status either. This could become a very tricky situation if AP does not practice on Saturday.  Keep a close eye on AP's status because fantasy owners may have to gamble and play someone else on Sunday instead of waiting for the final verdict on Monday night.
