Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Saints-Falcons, Jeffery, Boldin and more
November 22, 2013
Hopefully your fantasy football team is off to a good start after last night’s Saints-Falcons game. Even if not, there’s still plenty of football to be played and time to catch up. That said, let’s take a look at some of the notable players out there who are making headlines today and see what everyone’s up to. Here’s the latest.
Saints-Falcons Fantasy Notes: There were a few surprises in last night’s 17-13 Saints victory over the Falcons. No one really had a mind-boggling game, but we did see a few breakouts rise above a general fray of mediocrity. Here’s a look at a few of the notable fantasy names from the matchup.
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport
Drew Brees: 278 yards; two touchdowns
Pierre Thomas: 10 carries; 73 yards
Jimmy Graham: Five receptions; 100 yards; one touchdown
Steven Jackson: 16 carries; 63 rush yards; one touchdown
Harry Douglas: nine receptions; 79 yards
Also of note, hot-and-cold fantasy performer Darren Sproles (who was a game-time decision) wasn’t able to take the field. Hopefully you got him out of your lineup in time.
Trent Richardson, RB, Indianapolis Colts: More bad news for Richardson and his owners. After coming off another downer week in Tennessee last Thursday (22 rush yards; 31 receiving yards; no scores) he’s dealing with an injury heading into Sunday’s matchup against Arizona.
Richardson was limited in practice yesterday due to a calf issue. We’ll have to see how he does in today’s session before we can speculate on his potential availability for this week. Regardless, he’s become a liability in fantasy, and is frequently being passed over in favor of Donald Brown. Richardson has just 44 yards on 21 carries over his last three games.
Anquan Boldin, WR, San Francisco 49ers: If you’ve had Boldin waiting patiently on your bench recently, it’s time to get him in there. He’s coming off a bounce-back week--six catches for 56 yards and a score against New Orleans--and looks like a pretty solid start for Week 12.
Boldin and the gang are in DC this weekend to play the Redskins. In his most recent appearance against Washington (with the Ravens), he blasted them for 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Of course, he’s in a completely different situation now, but that doesn’t change the fact that the ‘Skins defense has been downright awful at times this season. Consider Boldin a nice WR3 or flex option this week.
Alshon Jeffery, WR, Chicago Bears: Speaking of nice WR plays, Jeffery definitely qualifies this week. He’s currently on a four-game hot streak, notching 363 receiving yards on 25 catches during that span. The best part is that fantasy owners haven’t had to deal with a drop-off in production when the team switched to Josh McCown from the ailing Jay Cutler.
Jeffery and the Bears will take on St. Louis this week. The game is in a dome, so we won’t have to get cutesy with our lineups thinking about a potentially foul-weather game like we did in Week 11. He’s a no-duh fantasy start across the board, and should stay that way for the rest of the year.
