Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Harvin, Royal and more

Today marks the continuation of a very important week for fantasy football owners. Week 13 is the final round of games in the regular season for a lot of leagues out there, so your performance could very well dictate where your team will end up at season’s end. With that in mind, let’s check in on a few last-minute considerations in the fantasy world. Here’s the latest.

Donald Brown, RB, Indianapolis Colts: Brown is an intriguing fantasy name in today’s set of games, and if history repeats itself he could be in for a big outing. He’ll be up against the Titans, a team he shredded in Week 11 to the tune of 94 total yards and two touchdowns.
Brown (and pretty much the entire Colts team) faltered in Week 12, falling 11-40 to the Cardinals. Owners will be hesitant to put him into the lineup after that performance, during which he had just two carries for one rushing yard. Much of that was due to circumstance, however, as the Colts were down big early and pretty much threw the run game out the window. He should get a lot more touches--and have a lot more success--today. We like him as a low-end RB or flex.

New York Giants Defense: In theory, the Giants defense should make a nice fantasy fill-in this week for those owners in need (such as anyone looking for a replacement for the Chiefs). They’ve got the Redskins in Washington this evening, and even with the potential defensive holes due to injuries, they should have a pretty decent outing.
The Redskins offense has only been able to score a combined 22 points in their past two games, and have given up a combined 14 sacks in their last three.
New York gave up 327 yards to the Cowboys in Week 12, so they’ll be looking for a bounce-back game here. Due to the favorable matchup, they’re not a bad play as a fill-in D/ST in fantasy this week.

Percy Harvin, WR, Seattle Seahawks: Those fantasy owners who picked up Harvin in the hopes that he’d put up some huge numbers while giving the Seahawks offense a lift got a big surprise yesterday. Apparently, the talented WR suffered a setback with his newly-repaired hip late this week, and he’s been downgraded to doubtful on the team’s official injury report for Monday night. Harvin missed out on practice all week and is experiencing lingering soreness after his season debut two weeks ago.
This is terrible news for those fantasy owners hoping to get a late-season lift from Harvin’s presence. Hopefully he’ll be able to get over his issues this week and maybe get back onto the field in Week 14 against the 49ers.

Eddie Royal, WR, San Diego Chargers: Though he was originally assigned a questionable tag on the team’s injury report this week, it’s looking like Royal is going to miss today’s game against Cincinnati. He was downgraded to doubtful due to toe and chest injuries yesterday, and likely will have to sit.
Make sure you get Royal out of your lineup, but keep him handy. If he can get over his issues, he does have a few decent matchups coming up. The Chargers will play the Giants, the Broncos and the Raiders in the next few weeks.
