TV:

With the completion of Week 13 in the NFL, many fantasy leagues are entering their playoff schedules. That means the stakes are much higher, and the slightest miscue can mean the difference between a championship and another lost season. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy names out there and see if we can get a feel for the upcoming games. Here’s the latest.

DeAngelo Williams, RB, Carolina Panthers: Good news on Williams today. The expectation is that he’ll be able to practice on Wednesday, a few days after missing the Buccaneers game with a quad injury. He sat out practice all week last week, so this would definitely be a step in the right direction.
That said, Williams still isn’t the greatest fantasy option out there. With the presence of Mike Tolbert, Jonathan Stewart and perhaps most of all Cam Newton, there’s little meat left on the bone for a significant rushing contribution. The Panthers play the Saints in a very, very big divisional matchup on Sunday evening.

Stevan Ridley, RB, New England Patriots: This is a weird situation. Ridley was a healthy scratch during Sunday’s come-from-behind win over the Texans. Speculation dictated that it was an effort to send him a “message” over his ball security issues, but Pats coach Bill Belichick told reporters yesterday that wasn’t the case. He maintained that the lineup decisions are made from a game-planning standpoint each week, and not from any issues he may have with a particular player.
That sounds a little fishy, but whatever. The theme here appears to be that the Patriots have lost faith in Ridley. It’s pretty easy to see why--he’s lost a fumble in each of his past three appearances. New England has a plethora of running backs to rely on now, so we’d say Ridley’s playing time is in serious jeopardy.

Alfred Morris, RB, Washington Redskins: Let’s talk about the Morris situation. He’s causing headaches for owners headed to the playoffs, as he may not end up as a reliable fantasy name over the next several weeks. He only touched the ball twice in the second half of his team’s loss to the Giants on Sunday night, and ended up with just 11 carries for 26 yards. He did score a touchdown, however, which was the only thing keeping his outing from being a complete bust.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan gave something of a nonsensical answer when pressed about Morris’ lack of involvement, saying it had to do with third-down and long-yardage situations. Whatever the case, his stats over the past couple of weeks are certainly troubling. He has just 25 carries in his last two games.

Cecil Shorts, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars: We’ve got a quick note on Shorts this morning, and if you’re an owner you’ll have to pay attention to him this week. He was limited in practice yesterday, thanks to a groin injury. Normally this wouldn’t be a huge deal just yet, but the Jags have a short week; they’ll play the Texans on Thursday. Shorts is coming off a six-catch day that yielded 64 yards and a score. We’ll keep you posted on his status.

Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens: One more quick note today: those owners who are stashing Pitta or planning on snatching him up as soon as he becomes available will have to wait a few more days. The Ravens reportedly won’t make a decision on activating him for the Vikings game until later in the week. Pitta has been out all year with a hip injury, and this has been his target week for some time.
