Daily Fantasy NBA 1/19/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Basketball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Tonight's Matchups
January 19, 2014
We’ve got just five NBA games on the schedule today, so the fantasy action won’t be as intense as usual. That said, there are still some opportunities out there for enterprising owners, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look at some of the trending players who could come up with big numbers in today’s matchups.
Markieff Morris, PF/C, Phoenix Suns: We visited with Morris yesterday, but we’ll go ahead and put him here today as well since he’s remained a strong trend among waiver wire pickups. It’s easy to see the appeal: He posted 23 points, 12 rebounds and two assists in his last outing Friday against Dallas. That was his second consecutive outing with at least 23 points.
Morris plays better at home, and that’s good news for fantasy owners. His next three games are in Phoenix, including today against Denver. He’s worth a look.

Wesley Johnson, SG/SF, Los Angeles Lakers: You’re getting one big thing with Johnson, and that’s three-pointers. Fortunately, he’s been pretty good with them recently, posting six consecutive outings with double-digit points. That includes an 11-point, 11-rebound outing in Boston on Friday.
When Johnson is hitting, he’s pretty effective as a lower-end fantasy option. As a bonus, he’ll also provide a handful of boards, assists and steals each game. The Lakers will likely continue to rely on him as this long road trip wears thin. He’s in Toronto today.
Kelly Olynyk, C, Boston Celtics: Olynyk burst onto the scene Friday evening with a great performance against the Lakers. He managed 25 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the loss, which came completely from out of nowhere. He’s still averaging just 6.8 points per game and hasn’t been much of a fantasy force so far.
As of right now, Olynyk works as a speculative add only, as there’s no real guarantee that he can keep up--or even repeat--his performance from Friday. Still, we’ll be watching him in Orlando today.
Randy Foye, PG/SG, Denver Nuggets: We’ve checked in on Foye here and there throughout the course of the last couple months, and he’s making waves again. He’s been putting up some pretty consistent offensive numbers recently, including Friday against Cleveland: 16 points, four assists and a steal.
Foye is a long-ball shooter, and due to his ceiling he should be owned just about everywhere. Pick him up before tonight in Phoenix.
James Johnson, SF/PF, Memphis Grizzlies: Johnson has been great in fantasy recently, and he’s a no-duh pickup if you can still get him. He’s coming off another full stat sheet, with seven points, four rebounds, four assists, a steal and two blocks on Friday against Sacramento. The Grizzlies have responded to his play well, with five straight wins.
Johnson and the Grizz don’t play again until tomorrow at home against the Pelicans, but he’s been performing so well that you should hit the wire ASAP and see if he’s still there in your league.
