Daily Fantasy NHL 2/6/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Hockey Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Tonight's Matchups
February 6, 2014
We’ve got a very busy 11-game schedule coming up in the NHL this evening, and you know what that means: lots of fantasy hockey fun. While we’re tinkering with those lineups in advance of tonight’s matchups, let’s take a closer look at some of the trending waiver-level players out there and see who’s worth taking a look at for a possible addition to your roster.
Gustav Nyquist, C/RW, Detroit Red Wings: After learning that he’d be representing Sweden in the Olympics this year, Nyquist continued his run of solid play with a nice outing against Vancouver. He posted an assist and a plus-1 rating in that game, which gives him five helpers to go along with eight goals in the last nine games.
Nyquist has certainly been on quite a tear, and is a must-have fantasy commodity at the moment. He’ll be in Florida to take on the Panthers tonight; Make sure you grab him if you can.

Antoine Vermette, C/LW, Phoenix Coyotes: Speaking of players who are on tears, Vermette certainly qualifies. He’s posted eight goals and three assists during his current eight-game points streak, with his most recent score coming Tuesday against Dallas.
That makes 21 goals and 14 helpers on the season for Vermette, so he’s an obvious pickup and start in pretty much any league. He doesn’t play until tomorrow, however, against the Blackhawks.
Mark Giordano, D, Calgary Flames: Even though his impressive nine-game points streak came to an end this week, Giordano still ranks pretty high on the waiver wire radar. During his run, he put up four goals and six assists, giving him nine scores and 19 helpers in total this season.
If for some strange reason Giordano has been overlooked in your league, don’t hesitate to pick him up. That said, he can also be a sell-high asset if you’re looking to bolster your lineup in other areas. He plays in New York against the Isles tonight.
Darcy Kuemper, G, Minnesota Wild: Kuemper endured a rough stretch of games recently, allowing a whopping eight goals in a two-game span last week. He responded well, however, putting up a 35-of-36 saves performance in a win against the Lightning his last time out.
Minnesota seems like they’re sticking with Kuemper throughout his ups and downs, which is a good sign for a potential fantasy investment. He’s started 11 straight games. The Wild will host Nashville this evening.
Ryan Johansen, C/RW, Columbus Blue Jackets: Whatever Johansen is doing differently this season (as opposed to the last two), he needs to keep doing it. He’s been stellar this year, posting a total of 23 goals and 20 assists so far. That mark includes a nice three-game points streak as of right now, with four scores and a helper in that span.
Johansen’s only real “blah” stat is his plus-minus (zero), but otherwise he’s a sterling fantasy pickup. The Jackets will be in L.A. to take on the Kings tonight, so grab him before then.
