Daily Fantasy NBA 2/23/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Basketball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Today's Matchups
February 23, 2014
We’ve got eight games coming up in the NBA today, and the action gets started extra-early this afternoon. That means all sorts of fantasy happenings in the coming hours, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look at the trending players out there who you should be considering as an addition to your fantasy roster.
Nick Young, SG/SF, Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers got some good news (which has been in short supply) this weekend when it was announced that Young would be good to go for tonight’s game against the Nets. He’s been out for the past six games due to a knee injury, and was playing pretty well before he went down.
Young’s been the hottest thing on the waiver wire this weekend, but there’s no guarantee he’ll get significant minutes in the near future as he gets readjusted to the NBA grind. Still, he’s worth picking up in seasonal leagues.

D.J. Augustin, PG, Chicago Bulls: Augustin has been on quite a run recently, and that trend continued in his last appearance Friday against Denver. He put up 22 points, five rebounds, eight assists and a pair of steals in the win, which gives him double-digit points in six of his last seven outings.
As long as he’s getting consistent minutes, Augustin will continue to thrive, and we don’t see the situation changing. The matchup tonight isn’t great (Miami) but he’s still a must-own player everywhere.
Darren Collison, PG, Los Angeles Clippers: Let’s head back to Los Angeles and check in on Collison, who has been a hot add since Friday night. The pickups are mostly speculative and short-term, however, as the up-tick comes from Chris Paul’s sprained thumb.
The good news for the Clippers is that Paul is expected to be just fine. That said, a just-in-case pickup of Collison wouldn’t hurt, as the team may go easy on CP3 today in Oklahoma City.
Markieff Morris, PF/C, Phoenix Suns: Morris had quite the run of great play last week, capped off by a Friday tilt against the Spurs to the tune of 21 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. He now has double-digit points in his last four straight outings.
Morris is one of those rare waiver-wire level players who is a threat to fill the stat sheet on any given night. He’s a great pickup right now while he’s hot, and should continue to play well as long as Dwight Howard doesn’t get in his way tonight when the Rockets come to town.
P.J. Tucker, SG/SF, Phoenix Suns: Let’s finish things off today by sticking in Phoenix and taking a look at Tucker. On Friday against the Spurs, he put up just four points, but has remained a hot add thanks to his recent numbers. Before that game, he had a string of five straight double-digit scoring performances with three double-doubles in that span.
We’ll call Tucker’s Friday game a hiccup while we go ahead and recommend him for fantasy consideration. After Houston and Minnesota, he’s got a few pretty good-looking matchups ahead.
