Daily Fantasy MLB 4/20/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
April 20, 2014
We’ve come to the end of the weekend, which means there will be series finales all across the MLB today. That means plenty of fantasy baseball activity, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look at some of the noteworthy players who are making their marks on the fantasy trends and waiver wire radar. If you’re looking for a sleeper or a matchup play, here’s where to start.
George Springer, OF, Houston Astros: Ever since he burst onto the professional scene last week, Springer has been a hot add in the fantasy game. He nabbed his first RBI and stolen base on Friday, giving him a three-game hit streak in his first trio of outings. He extended it with a 1-for-4 effort yesterday.
Springer isn’t as valuable in the cleanup spot as he might be higher up in the order, so that’s a minor consideration here. Still, there’s no doubting his appeal, so make sure to grab him if he’s still out there in your league.

Chris Colabello, 1B/OF, Minnesota Twins: We’ve spent a lot of time talking about Colabello over the past couple of weeks, and he’s remained a very popular target in fantasy circles. In a four-game stretch last week, he produced nine hits, a run and five RBI. He promptly went 2-for-4 with a run yesterday, doing nothing but increasing his appeal.
Colabello has been tearing it up with the RBI this season, and he’s one of the top contributors out there in that area. He’s definitely worth grabbing while he’s still hitting.
Devin Mesoraco, C, Cincinnati Reds: Menorca has been one of the most pleasant surprises in fantasy this season, and he’s a great pickup at a tough position. In his first game of the Cubs series Friday, he put up a 1-for-3 outing with a run and his first steal of the season. He followed that up yesterday with a 2-for-4 line and a run.
Mesoraco has been great for needy owners for the past couple of weeks, and there are really only a few C names we’d start over him right now. The finale at Wrigley Field is today.
Rajai Davis, OF, Detroit Tigers: Hardly a year goes by where we don’t discuss Davis at length several times throughout the season. Here he is again, making fantasy waves and earning pickups in leagues everywhere. His performance in the Angels opener Friday garnered two runs and a steal. He was 1-for-3 yesterday in the second game.
Davis has been playing more this month thanks to a banged-up Tigers outfield, and he’s making the most of it. That’s great news for those owners in need of steals, just be prepared to abandon ship if he starts flunking at the plate.
Howie Kendrick, 2B, Los Angeles Angels: Kendrick is a relative newcomer to the waiver wire radar, and he’s very much welcome since he represents a difficult and thin fantasy position. Friday in Detroit, he put up three hits, two runs, two homers and four RBI. He extended his hit streak to four games with a 1-for-3 outing yesterday.
Kendrick’s BA is still kind of “meh,” but as a 2B option he gets special consideration. He’s a great pickup as a backup name and should play well on the road this week.
