TV:

The MLB weekend series are in full swing across the league, and as usual that brings about plenty of big opportunities for your fantasy baseball team. We’ve come up with a few noteworthy names who are making a big impact on the waiver wire, so let’s check out the recent stats and see if any of them are worth adding to your team.

J.D. Martinez, OF, Detroit Tigers: Heading into the weekend, Martinez is the hottest ticket in fantasy. He had a great series against KC, posting three homers, four runs and six RBI in just four games as part of a nine-game hit streak. He nailed yet another homer in a 3-for-4 outing yesterday.
Martinez won’t be hitting crazy like this for long, so jump on the bandwagon while you can. The breakdown on him shows a penchant for streaky play, so tread with caution. Still, he’s a great depth add right now.

Jason Vargas, SP, Kansas City Royals: Let’s head over to the aforementioned KC now and check out Vargas. He’s a pretty hot commodity on the hill, posting five earned in 14 2/3 innings over his last two starts. He’s 2-0 in that frame with nine strikeouts to his credit.
Vargas boasts a 3.25 ERA and 1.21 WHIP on the season right now. He heads into a home matchup against the Mariners today and could make a nice pickup for those in need of a starter in their fantasy rotations.

Andrew Heaney, SP, Miami Marlins: One of the hottest prospects in the game right now is Heaney, who is coming off his inaugural start in the Major League. He took a tough-luck loss Thursday, logging six innings of work and allowing one earned (on a solo homer) in a 1-0 loss to the Mets.
Heaney has as much upside as just about any young pitcher out there, and he’s a must-own candidate in fantasy. Snatch him up before anyone else in your league does. He’ll face Philly on the road in his next start.

Ryan Howard, 1B, Philadelphia Phillies: Speaking of Philly, let’s check out Howard, who has been making some waiver wire noise this week. Heading into yesterday’s game against the Cardinals, he had a four-game hit streak in hand, logging three homers, five runs and a whopping nine RBI in that brief time frame. He was 1-for-5 yesterday.
Here’s the deal with Howard: He strikes out a lot, and won’t do much for your BA, but he’s pumping in the homers and RBI right now. If that’s up your alley, you need to target him immediately.

Scooter Gennett, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers: We’ve checked out Gennett a couple of times over the past week or so, and he continues to make an impact in fantasy. Heading into the Rockies series, he had a six-game hit streak to his credit, posting six runs, a homer and five RBI in that span. He had three hits and three runs yesterday.
Gennett’s been getting plenty of playing time against right-handed pitching, and he’s been doing quite a bit with it. We like him in this Colorado series this weekend, so be sure to give him a look if you need middle infield help.
