The big weekend series are underway around the MLB, which makes this a pretty important time for fantasy baseball owners. By now, you should have a solid idea as to where your team is headed, and in case you need to make some changes let’s check out some of the up-and-coming players who are trending as adds right now.

Odrisamer Despaigne, SP, San Diego Padres: There are a couple of things to keep in mind when you’re looking at Despaigne. For one, he doesn’t pitch until tomorrow. Secondly, he may not hang around the rotation for an extended period of time, but he’ll work if you’re in a deeper-league pinch.
That said, the young Despaigne is coming off a nice seven-inning shutout against the Giants, tossing just four hits and no walks. He’s not a very powerful pitcher, but if his stuff is working tomorrow against the D-Backs, he could post another strong outing.

Roenis Elias, SP, Seattle Mariners: Elias does pitch today, and he’s been getting a lot of looks thanks to his recent play. Over his last two outings, he’s allowed just two earned runs on eight hits. He has a 2-0 record in that span and has collected 11 strikeouts.
Elias is sitting on a 3.74 ERA and 1.19 WHIP so far in the season. He’s 4-1 over his last five starts and will take on the visiting Reds today. He’ll hiccup every so often, but lately he’s been a good bet.

Scooter Gennett, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers: There’s not much to dislike about Gennett recently. Heading into yesterday’s Game 2 against Colorado, he had a three-game hit streak going, posting four hits, three runs, two homers and a whopping seven RBI in that time frame. He sat out yesterday’s game.
Gennett is getting all sorts of attention in fantasy recently, and the fact that he plays a thin position only helps his case. He’s getting pretty close to must-own territory, so give him a good long look if you can.

Lucas Duda, 1B/OF, New York Mets: Duda has quietly been mashing over in the Big Apple recently and he’s starting to turn some heads in the fantasy community. Heading into yesterday’s Pittsburgh game, he had a four-game hit streak going, with four runs, three homer s and six RBI to his credit in that span. He had a hit and two more RBI yesterday.
Duda’s BA is still a little on the low side, but that could change in a hurry if he keeps hitting. There’s very little to complain about when it comes to the power numbers, so if you need homers/RBI, look his way.

Mookie Betts, SS, Boston Red Sox: We’ll finish things up today with a prospect project you’ll want to keep your eyes on. Betts is one of the best hitters in the minor leagues right now, and the Sox have been moving him around in his recent starts to try and get an idea of how he might fit at the major league level.
There’s a growing buzz that seems to indicate Betts might be heading toward a call-up, with the movements and injury situations in Boston lending credence there. Deeper league owners should make a move now, but the rest of us can wait a little bit.
