TV:

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for a look ahead to the weekend series as they pertain to fantasy baseball. The next few days mark the final matchups before this year’s All-Star Game, so they’ll be extremely important for your team’s positioning before the unofficial halfway point. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers and see if any of the trending pickups are right for you.

Charlie Morton, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates: Another trendy SP add over the past couple of days is Morton. In his last appearance, he put up seven innings of one-hit, shutout ball against the Cardinals but had to settle for a no-decision. He’s only allowed one earned run in his past two starts combined.
Morton is rocking a 3.10 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP with 94 strikeouts this year. He’ll go into Cincinnati on Saturday in what looks to be a pretty good matchup.

Fantasy Baseball Update 7/10/14: Key Matchups This Weekend

USA TODAY Sports

Jacob deGrom, SP/RP, New York Mets: As far as SP prospects go, deGrom has been pretty popular lately. In his last appearance, he put up a seven-inning shutout, allowing seven hits and striking out 11 batters in the win.
As for deGrom’s season-long stats, he’s got a 3.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP to his credit right now. If you want to get in on the action here, he’ll be taking the mound on Sunday against the Marlins at home.

Torii Hunter, OF, Detroit Tigers: We’ve visited with Hunter from time to time this season, and it’s high time we did again. Heading into yesterday’s game against the Dodgers, he had a six-game hit streak, with four runs, two homers, nine RBI and a steal in that span. He had an 0-fer in yesterday’s game, but still posted an RBI.
Hunter has enjoyed a great July, and as long as his bat is working he’s definitely worth picking up in most mixed fantasy leagues. Just be on the lookout for another extended slump--but that probably won’t happen in the Kansas City series.

Marcell Ozuna, OF, Miami Marlins: Here’s another outfielder we’ve visited with a few times this season. Ozuna has been on fire this season, punctuating his performances with six hits, a run, a homer and four RBI in the three games prior to the Arizona finale yesterday. He went 1-for-3 in that one.
Ozuna came pretty much from out of nowhere to dominate many fantasy conversations this year, so it’s high time you jumped on the bandwagon. He should have another good series in New York against the Mets this weekend.

Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles Angels: We’ll finish up today with Aybar, who has had a pretty good stretch of games this week. Heading into the Toronto finale, he had a four-game hit streak, during which he managed three runs, two RBI and three stolen bases. He had another hit and a run yesterday.
Aybar has been great when it comes to RBI/runs this season, especially at a thin SS position. He’ll trickle in some homers and steals here and there, too, which is icing. He’ll be in Texas for the Rangers this weekend, so check him out.
