Daily Fantasy MLB 7/27/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
July 27, 2014
With the big weekend series winding down today, there are still plenty of opportunities out there on the MLB field for hopeful fantasy baseball owners. With that in mind, let’s take our daily stroll around the waiver wire and check to see which players are making waves right now. Here’s a closer look at the numbers.
Jacob deGrom, SP/RP, New York Mets: We’ve been talking about deGrom at length over the past couple of weeks, and now with his next start imminent he’s trending once again. He’s been stellar over his past few games, and is coming off a seven-inning, one-earned win in Seattle.
As for today, deGrom will face off against Milwaukee on the road. Our guess is that he’ll be able to improve upon his 3.01 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while providing a nice strikeout total.
USA TODAY Sports
Miguel Gonzalez, SP, Baltimore Orioles: Speaking of up-and-coming starting pitchers, Gonzalez fits that bill. He’s been on a nice little run over his past three starts, allowing just five earned and striking out 16 during that span.
Gonzalez is coming off a 7 2/3-inning win over the Angels, which brought his ERA down to 3.91 and WHIP to 1.41 on the year. He’ll be in Seattle today, and there’s a good chance he’ll provide at least a quality start.
Denard Span, OF, Washington Nationals: Span is pretty darn hot right now, and it’s reflecting in the waiver wire trends. Heading into play yesterday, he had eight hits, three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in his last two games alone. He nailed another hit yesterday to keep it going.
Span has raised his fantasy profile enough to warrant an add in just about every fantasy format. If he keeps it up with the steals, he’ll shatter his mark from last year and provide some nice value along the way.
Josh Rutledge, 2B/3B/SS, Colorado Rockies: Rutledge has been the talk of the fantasy community over the past few days, and it’s not too hard to see why. Heading into play yesterday, he had a whopping 10 hits in six games, with four runs, a homer and six RBI in that frame. He was on it again yesterday with three hits and three RBI.
Rutledge should be seeing the field with lots of regularity in the near future while the Rockies clear up their injury situation. That means he’s prime for pickup just about everywhere, so check him out.
Shane Victorino, OF, Boston Red Sox: Victorino has been making waves of his own recently, and he’s brought with him some extra attention in fantasy. Heading into yesterday’s game, he had 10 hits, four runs, a homer and a pair of RBI in a six-game stretch. He sat out yesterday for a maintenance day.
Now that Victorino is healthy, the sky seems to be the limit. He’s doing everything he can to get you to take notice; Do so and pick him up as he should be owned just about everywhere.
